According to believers of the Mayan Calendar, the world might end at midnight on 21st December 2012.
Will you be having a party to say farewell to all and sundry, before putting your head between your legs and kissing your ass goodbye?
Or will you plan now to take out a massive loan from the bank, and live it up for the next two months?
Should be a great party though.

The Mayans predicted a whole lot of things but failed to spot their own demise as a civilisation. will I be taking advice from them? No.
I'll probably just do what I've done on all the other eves of the end of the world. F all.

Utter garbage! The Mayan Long Calendar no more presages the end of the world than the one in your diary which stops on 31 December...
The Mayans were too late for the end of the world by hundreds of years!

Well you don't see many Mayans running about today do you?
And Nostradomus forecasts 3786 - think I know which horse I am backing and it ain't Mexican.
The Mayan calendar doesn't predict the end of the world - it's simply the end of that particular calendar. If the Maya had been any good at predictions, they'd have known their civilisation would fall, and hence, that calendar would have finished several centuries ago.
ps. I might have a party anyway though. I like parties. ;o)
People also used to believe the earth was flat and the moon was made of cheese.

Why do people insist on listening to scriptures, or deciphering paintings, carvings and etchings from what is often babaric civilizations from many centuries ago?

If they could see the future, why couldn't they see that the Spanish were coming to rape, pillage and destroy their culture yet could see thousands of years into the future when the world would apparently end?
Im more likely to believe the scientists who predict when the sun will finally burn out.
Where has the notion come from that there are no Mayans today?

Maybe it's just my world that is ending. Oh well.......
Markrae, true. They're much in evidence in southern Mexico,
has Russell Grant , Mystic Meg or any of those other multitude of fraudsters won the lottery yet ?!!

just wondering
Doubt it Baz - but they knew they wouldn't so it can't have come as a disappointment. ;o)
Sectarian religionists in the past persuaded themselves that the destruction of the sun, moon, stars and earth was at hand, and did many foolish things that brought ridicule upon them and made the subject of the end of the world one that provoked a smile of incredulity.

The things done were foolish because they were not the things which God’s Word tells true Christians who are facing the real end to do

Theland, I'll try not to be any more disappointed than you are if it doesn't. ;o)
goodlife // The things done were foolish because they were not the things which God’s Word tells true Christians who are facing the real end to do //

What is foolish is the eagerness which the likes of you eagerly await the demise of the planet.

You cherish the thought of the death of all those who don't share your doctrine. You anticipate how your God will kill and kill and kill in the fine tradition of your Bible. And you would gladly step up and slaughter with your own hands if you thought your God had directed you to do so just like Joshua and his partners in crimes against humanity.

Basically goodlife you and your kind are a pox on society.
@goodlife

You should also be aware that there are three major branches of Abraham's minions (and thousand minor sects like your own) who all assume their particular interpretation of "God's Word" is the exclusive truth.

They all presume that their sect will inherit the planet and eagerly anticipate the time. For countless centuries they have claimed to be living in the "last days" of the reign of man. They cite conflicts (mainly driven by their own animosity toward other sects) as evidence of the time approaching.
Beso--No, I am saying insteadI of crawling into a hole like cave men in fear of the world’s end, the witnesses of Jehovah have come right out into the open and are most outstanding among the people of all nations. Everywhere because of their fearless witness the men of this system of things are unable to overlook and ignore their activity. Irritated by this activity, they complain that Jehovah’s witnesses are active, all right, but they withdraw their active support from the systems of this world, and have no encouraging word of hope to say for them. On this account they complain that Jehovah’s witnesses hate mankind.

That is a silly conclusion. It is identical with the charge that people of the Roman Empire made against Christians of the first century for refusing to take part in the political, social, recreational and military affairs of this world
Witness to what goodlife? You have witnessed nothing. Everything you claim is based hearsay relayed by an oligarchy interested on one thing only; their political power.

If you stood up in a court of law and claimed to be a witness you would be charged with perjury.
