Drug addicts again

After perusing the back catalogue of this thread, i see a Q about drug addicts looking the same.
Then the bigots, safely cocooned in the cosy little worlds sit back and have a go. Have you never heard of the adage" There but for the grace of god go we."
I work with people that have a variety of social problems, very rarely do i encounter someone that was essentially bad. No one generally engineers the lifestyle of an addict, who would? There are, and i am ready for the bigot party to break in here, in most cases quite sad and traumatic reasons why addicts end up as they are, i have had in my work domain girls that were abused, boys also to be fair, that grew up in childrens homes never getting the chance to gather the full set of social skills and tools of interaction that would give them a fighting chance in society. They have as their peer group, people that have most likely had no better a life than they. They have had poor role models if any, and have been, whether they are of the opinion themselves, victims in the aspects of their lives that they should have had control of.
It is hardly surprising that with poor education, and little social skill they drift into situations that they cannot deal with. Drink, drugs and prostitution, male and female, are not such a stretch from the reality of a youngster that lives on the street, or in poor accomodation in the less savoury areas that they are forced to reside in.

Once they are a drug addict, then the situation is now completely different. They no longer have a choice as you or i may see it. That is the nature of the addiction, it is overwhelming, unless you have been there you are in no position to say how or what a drug addict should do. I am not saying people aren't allowed to get fed up of them begging and stealing, that would be stupid, they do look terrible, they do smell, heaven knows i can vouch for that, but at least try and understand that they haven't done it all by choice, it will be a wonderful day when they take a drug for the last time, not for us, for them.
I am sure that some of you will, without having considered what i have said, automatically start going on about how they actually like what they do and how they live and they should stop it all and get a job. Well it is a free world that is unless you are trapped inside an addiction.

well it dosent sound like a question to me, just stating why you are right and other people are wrong. Why are you expecting people to agree/disagree when you've already labelled the people who dont agree as bigots who are in their own cosy world. What an incentive for a debate! Also, you have already accused people who might disagree with you as acting as automatons, and just producing a reaction (or is that what you want; to poke people into having a fight with you?)
quite clearly, your position is supremely right, and any other thoughts people might have are going to be wrong. Or are you open minded enough to think you might be swayed into accepting someone elses opposing arguement, in the way that you seem to be hoping to sway others into yours?

I believe drug addicts are the absolute scum of society. They smell, they are filthy, they are highly criminal. The are a burden on the police, GP's and the NHS. They choose to take their filthy drugs and many times spread Hep A,B and C and AIDS.
They are also indirectly responsible for part of the war in Afghanistan (war on drugs as well as the war on terror) as about 85 percent of the world heroin is from Taliban poppy fields.
Most drug addicts and certainly ALL drug dealers deserve to die a painful death. Just as those robbed, mugged, burgled etc have to endure indignity and loss through these truly foul druggies.

I understand that people become addicted and live quite miserable lives as a result, they normally have bad childhoods and do drift into drugs ..understandable.!
I dont agree with people who say that their drug habit doesnt affect anyone and they are doing no harm to anyone. I wouldnt call myself a bigot, I can see the world through the eyes of the sober.

as i recall the question was just asking why drug addicts tend to 'have a certain look', i.e, have gaunt faces, waxy skin and a sort of croaky voice and jittery mannerisms that tell everyone that they are on drugs.
This is a fact - many do look and act that way.
I understood it to be just curious as to why that is.
