Does anyone know if there is a grant available for someone leaving hospital,my brother has been ill and now he is in a phsyciatric hospital, for years he has been unable to work beacause of his condition (OCD) and has also been unable to decorate or even buy new stuff,he decided to scrape his wallpaper and lift his carpets with the intention of renewing it all(he was trying to make himself feel better) but then became worse with his illness and was unable to complete the work,he is a council tenant and is recieving disability living alloance,he is not a sponger,in fact he is reluctant to apply for one if its available, he would work if he could believe me but really is one of the genuine ones who cant work, ive heard that drug addicts and alcoholics who leave hospital get lots of help,im doing this off my own back for him,i feel that when he leaves hospital he will slip backwards into depression again if he goes back to his house the way it is,any help appreciated.

he may be entitled to a Social Fund grant or loan. you (or he) would have to ask at the local Job Centre. is he getting all the benefits he's entitled to?

if not, the hospital may suggest a charity that would help him.
you could also ask the local town coucil if there is any charity set up for town residents.
The town Im in does have a "in need" charity that helps some people.
Try contacting your local MIND to see if there is anything local for your brother to tap into.

If there is a Social Worker attached to the hospital they may be able to advise you, or alternatively CABr
