pixie as I said, the bug concerned either gets exterminated by your body or settles down in the zoo. (or in the case of Covid, kills you) You are no better or worse off than if you had never met that bug. Honestly staying at home and social distancing will not weaken a normal immune system and is likely to protect someone with a weakened one.
Or it immunises you for the future. I don't want to argue with you, woof.... I would rather just know the truth than "be right".
Unless someone actually says something different, which makes sense, I probably won't change my view.
You seem to have moved the goalposts, pix. Do you not think the current form of lockdown is a good thing to prevent the NHS from becoming overwhelmed?

I think there is a great deal of 'anecdotal' evidence that those children from uber-clean homes have always been the ones who have subsequently been the most ill-equipped to deal with many 'infections' whereas those who delighted in sploshing about in all manner of dirt were the ones who had the most robust immune systems.
I don't believe that short periods of isolation will change that teerribly much...
JTH there is a difference between the "uber clean homes" theory and the "immune system will be weakened by limiting interaction with strangers" theory.
Pixi I’m with you ... I’ve just read all the replies n you talk a lot of sense. And no I can’t back all of it up either (unlike many on here I am neither succinct nor can quote which sources formed my opinion.

Oh and I firmly believe that that stress and a long, ongoing (but mild) infection weakened my husbands immune system and helped cancer get a foothold
Zacs, no. I don't think it is enough to make a longterm difference. And I haven't changed my mind, or goalposts. I think this is purely to let people have a "normal" Christmas, before we return to another semi-lockdown.
I do believe, purely, as it has been proven already, that uber-clean homes, have contributed to allergies and illnesses.
Thank you, eve xx
pixie "I do believe, purely, as it has been proven already, that uber-clean homes, have contributed to allergies and illnesses."

not the same thing as people not interacting with strangers will weaken a normal immune system
You seem reluctant to answer my question on whether the lockdown is a good thing regarding the potential swamping of the NHS. Why is that?
If you think so, woof. In my view, having to fight off different pathogens, requires the immune system to respond- and it remembers them. Somebody, for instance, who lived on a desert island, would not get any of these antibodies.
I know you can get to a point where ill people can't really produce them effectively. But for everyone else.... they will make them.
Me zacs? Apologies... no. I don't think it is helpful. It is too little too late, and ignores everyone who may actually benefit. Our hospitals here are empty, because they have stopped treating others (who have died).
It seems to be wanting to be seen to be doing something.... but these isolated elderly people are really paying for it.
Not all old people, want to be saved at any cost. Some, just want to live normally and see family before they die. They are not allowed to.
Where’s ‘here’, pix?
^I know, and that's what I meant.

pixie "Not all old people, want to be saved at any cost. Some, just want to live normally and see family before they die. They are not allowed to." Actually all summer they have been. They can also still bubble with a household and can still have people, including family, in their own houses for the purposes of care. Shielding was only ever advisory.

and all this is strayong away from your allegation that sta
argh and all this is straying away from your allegation that staying at home weakens the immune system.
Bucks and Kent, zacs.
I know, woof. It's just a shame they don't get a choice.
Advisory... yes... but you know what carehomes are like nowadays. They are so likely to be sued or blamed, etc, they are strangled with red tape. And advised is "essential". In real life.
those are care home residents who, despite appearances, are not the majority of older people.
.....and again, we are straying away from you allegation that not mixing with strangers weakens the normal immune system.

Its a problem with any kind of communal living that individuals can't have everything all their own way.
It's either fish n chips or chicken curry. Not sure yet.
