I love this site... have been a member for far too long lol

I rarely post but am always here and as a vegan I am basically gobsmacked at times at peoples attitude towards my lifestyle choice and yes it is a choice. As is yours.

BUT [from the Vegan Society]

Veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose.

At 47 years of age [50 this year] I adopted the Vegan lifestyle because I became aware of the apathy and my own jaded sense of what is right and wrong. Right to kill a pig... but not a dog? blah blah blah

Have you ever watched any documentaries concerning veganism? Earthlings? Cowspiracy? What the health?

Do you know what cognitive dissonance is?

I'm not posting this to be confrontational, I am truley interested in what people think :)

Not veganism naomi, but vegeterianism and I'm starting tomorrow when I go shopping for food. I totally agree with andres, there is far too much suffering in the animal world, all down to us. How awful for them to know they are going to die.

Some hard hearted people when it comes to animals. .
I hate to think of them being dragged screaming into the abbattoir. Calves being ripped away from their mothers. Lambs killed before they've had any life to speak of. Halal butchering -slitting an animals throat and hanging it up to drain it's life's blood. Battery hens and chickens. Pigs forced to give birth in tiny caged pens where they can't turn round. Worse still --dogs lined up and waiting to be boiled alive(not here thankfully ). But if they were I'd like to bet that you would all be up in arms about that method. And so the cruelty goes on and on and on. I haven't eaten red meat for thirty years now. Stick to your beliefs Divegirl.
When the eco system falls down due to not having 'domesticated animals' Cows, Sheep, Pigs, chickens, fish etc...' I reckon we'll turn on each other as cannibalism before cats and dogs turn on us for food. You don't see too many vegans in their species.... unless tortured to be so.
That's vegetarianism though which I think most of use would like to aspire to or at least understands. This thread has been, as I said pages ago, more like some weird cult recruitment. And don't forget if we were all vegans lambs, chickens, pigs, cows wouldn't even be alive to have a life.
As I posted prudie, I totally agree...just being popping in and out between... yes I know its a yawn but football.
I would like to eat a giraffe. One kill, many meals
For the Lionesses and cubs... by the time you popped down from the tree... guess who'd be waiting for you.
Andres, I'm not hard hearted about animals at all- quite the contrary, I don't even squish bugs. I am terrified of spiders yet I'll never see one harmed, everything has a cup put over it and removed elsewhere. I'm not one of these 'awwww it's fluffy therefore it's worth more than a spider, rat, snake or shark' people, I value all species equally and I would never kill anything I couldn't eat.
You say you've not eaten RED meat for 30 years- do you then eat other types of animal meat?
calicogirl-- Just got back to this thread. Been sorting the grandchildren out. To answer your question --
Well I eat fish, eggs, cheese, vegetables, fruit, pulses, cereals etc.etc.
Some of you vegans need to read up on the importance of culling. As for that yum yum female rabbit, she was eating away at the vegan food the farmer was growing in the field, along with hundreds of others. :)
^^^^^I am not a vegan ......
Thanks for the info Andres- so you have a moral objection to taking the life of a cow or sheep but not a fish? You see that's where I have a slight issue, the same with carnivores who object to eating horse but are happy to eat steak. Why is one things life more valuable than another ( in terms of food). I am really fairly unfussed what the animal is as long as it's reared as naturally as possible and slaughtered humanely, I can't see why it's okay to eat fish but not cattle. x
Has anyone here been converted to Veganism by this thread? Certainly not me.
I do not dislike vegans, vegetarians, or carnivores. I do dislike druggies, alcoholics, thicko’s. So a druggy, boozing, thicko, with a nut burger would not be my choice company.
calicogirl-^^^-What I did say was that I hate the inhumane way animals are treated when taken for slaughter. Can't help feeling like that . Plus I also put spiders outside I never kill them.
I don't put fish in the same category as cows, sheep etc.
Bye for now X

Fish are caught and slaughtered humanely?

What about the byproduct of commercial fishing?

//I don't put fish in the same category as cows, sheep etc//

Stick to your beliefs too Andres, cruelty is only acceptable for select animals?

.
are fish farms humane?
hereIam, I understand the sentiment behind vegetarianism completely – I eat very little meat – but I think Veganism is a step too far because I don’t believe it’s entirely healthy. For example, could a child be raised healthily on a vegan diet? I doubt it very much.
Depends how the fish are killed LadyJ.

A nice dose of sleepy drug first, a stun of some sort before their neck is broken?

Come to think of it, fish aren't happy out of water, however they are killed can't be too pleasant for the fish.

That's why I don't understand how some people think it's all good eating some animals but not others, seems a tad hypocritical to me.
No1ozzy but how are the fish kept on the fish farm? overcrowding? diseases? bred and inter-bred so they develop to a given size too quickly? All things that should be considered.

Don't ask me. I'm not a vegan. Just pointing out that all living things need consideration. Do plants want to be killed? Maybe we should live on water?
