' I'm sure I saw something on the news a couple of years ago showing an area where only Muslims could frequent and a no go area for anyone else. Even the police were unwelcome and felt uncomfortable going in'

this is something that should never happen, police being uncomfortable, why should that be the case.
Sigh,..................
so it would seem..
emmie, so you would ban all churches from having rules that their adherents should follow?
we weren't discussing churches as far as i can see,
i would take issue with Sharia councils however.
I don’t see how you can ban one church council without banning others....ban one set of religion based rules without banning others....myself I don’t care as I don’t need, use or believe in them, but that is what a sharia council is....as your own full fact link states
Actually I have no problem with Sharia councils. They have no legal status and their decisions only affect those who voluntarily submit to their jurisdiction. As long as it stays like that, why should we care?
jack
because many many women are using them to arbitrate, but they are run by mostly men from what i can see, so their judgements rule mostly for the men.
No of course not.
Neither Sharia Courts nor Bet Din have any jurisdiction in law, they are simply faith based authorities who by mutual agreement of both parties rule on matters of the Muslim and Jewish faiths respectively. They have no legal basis in the UK to rule on anything else, and those who go before them ( by choice) have no obligation whatsoever to do what they say. It's slightly like going before the committee of a club you belong to, it doesn't trump UK law no matter what.
given an authoritarian choice, which of course is none whatsoever, i would close all Mosques, faith schools,
churches except where they could be put to better use.
But we don't live in a dictatorship, at least not yet.

Can I hang on to my Rosary?
mamy
of course.
I would close all mosques full stop.
emmie, what would you do about families where the kids’ friends are invited round and the imam/priest/vicar/rabbi “just happens to drop in" and the conversation turns to religion?
Phew - you'd leave our schools and churches.

Of course I would.
Well I'm with these 300 women.

In all honesty I haven't read most of the article but I listen to plenty of Muslim and ex Muslim women on Twitter and support them in their opposition of Sharia courts
woof fine by me, you don't need a big building to do your kneeling, praying in, and i would close ALL faith schools.
Christian, Jewish, Islamic, the lot. If our children ever stand a chance of integrating then let our schools be free range so to speak.
Seems strange that you are happy for churches to stay emmie and rosary beads and other shows of religion but not if that religion is Muslim!
