Many would do anything to abandon any principle, just to stay alive.

" All that is necessary for the evil of religion to triumph is the silencing of those who dare to question its precepts."

I agree 100% -question its precepts - but you can do this without insults or disparagement.
Goodlife, I have just visited my Mother of 98years in a care home, she has 1st stage Dementia, she is, along with other lady's in this care home, it is sin full to see, I hope I never ever get to that stage.
Retrochic, //you can do this without insults or disparagement. //

Really? You asked me if I am the anti-Christ earlier.
mibn...you have paraphrased that quote so much that it barely resembles the original.
I would not sacrifice my principals for a longer life, when my time comes all I can hope for is a peaceful end.
Retro chic, with or without religion, on this site you have proven yourself to very unpleasant quite frequently!!
^^

** Principles - oops.
naomi -I was not insulting your beliefs or religion or lack thereof -I was insulting your attitude - subtle difference.....
Ratter this seemingly incessant need to trawl AB for my posts to add nothing but personal insults is becoming tedious.

Lol Retro, when have I ever bothered with you or you posts?Don't flatter yourself.
Retrochic, //I was not insulting your beliefs or religion or lack thereof -I was insulting your attitude - subtle difference..... //

Oh yes ..... I see. You were insulting me personally. Well, I suppose that must be alright then. Sheesh!
Ratter, you will be accused of stalking next..that is retro's method of avoiding replying to tricky questions. I'm not stalking you by the way.
JOMIFL, Oh I know what she's like, as for stalking her, lol. I really don't think so :-)
Retrochic, Don't let them intimidate you, talking about someone in the third person is just one of the pack's tactics. Give 'em hell!
Lol pack tactics now!! Oh Khandro you do make me smile!
Khandro, //Retrochic, Don't let them intimidate you, talking about someone in the third person is just one of the pack's tactics. Give 'em hell!//

And this from Khandro earlier today…..

//[atheists have] a requirement for mutual support, barely noticeable among the religious and agnostics.//

How funny! I think he forgets what he's said. :o)

Now, now children, all this bickering.
But back to the topic in hand.

Naomi @ you may know your Bible, you can probably quote it chapter and verse, but at the end of the day, you DO NOT (I'm not shouting, just emphasizing) understand it.
With regard to Job - cruelty does not come in to it.

Satan imputed false motive to Job’s worship of God, alleging that Job served not out of pure devotion but for selfish benefits. He thereby placed in question Job’s integrity to God. Permitted to divest Job of his vast possessions and even of his children, Satan failed to crack Job’s integrity. (Job 1:6–2:3) He then claimed that Job was selfishly willing to endure the loss of possessions and children as long as he could save his own skin.
(Job 2:4, 5)

Job proved his integrity.

To day there are well over 8 million people who have proved their integrity to God and have absolutely no part of this world and its affairs. They are obedient to the laws of the land, respect the authorities but will not partake in wars or politics.

Goodlife, you talk a huge load of garbage!!

TWR@ I can sympathise. Growing old is not very nice. I have a very dear friend who has a terminal illness and to watch him gradually deteriorate is heartbreaking.

But this was not God's original purpose for mankind, that we grow old and die. Had Adam and Eve not rebelled in the Garden of Eden we would not be in this position. God's original purpose was for man to live forever.

In fact, Ecclesiastes 3 v 11 says - He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has even put eternity in their heart; yet mankind will never find out the work that the true God has made from start to finish.
