It's proven that pork goes off quickly in hot countries too, which is possibly the origins of the forbiddeness of it in the first place.
boxtops, my mother stayed at home with us until my youngest brother was 11. It was a nightmare and my childhood was horrible, once she got back to work things lightened up as she was happier working than being a mum.

Lazygun, i respect what you have said. I do not want to go into a debate now of whether drugs are bad or marriage outside of marriage are bad. If someone wants, than by all means start a new thread on that. I was just trying to say how, to naomi, she loves talking about all the bad things of islam and how islam is some evil religion, yet i find it funny why firstly, she is so interested in it if that is the case and secondly, why she loves to admit the bad, but when evidence is given which supports something islam says, she will quickly twist it and will, i have noticed, try to avoid it by going on about something totally unrelated and different.

In truth, this thread did only have a social view, yet i realised how only not that long ago we were discussing the same thing, and now there is evidence for it, so i though i would mention it, that was it. But as usual, naomi came, took it to be me trying to preach islam and suddenly, as she usualy loves doing, started to say her arguments of why islam is bad. So if you really want to see when this thread turned religious, it was from that moment.

Now, i hope we can steer it back on track to being a social view of the issue, but i highly doubt that will last. As said, if anyone really wants to make it a religious argument or debate, do it in another thread. As of now i refuse to discuss religion in this thread.
lazygun; I posted about hijacked thread at 15.57

OP posted at 16.19 that in deed he posted the thread with a view to discussing the religious as well as social aspects of his links. If he clarified this at the beginning of his post I would not have even contributed.
"Evidence is given which supports Islam..." which bit of it? If it supports the minor aspects that's pretty much meaningless.

Naomi can speak for herself, I'm sure -- but for myself, if I am of the opinion that something is evil I don't think I'd want to shut up about it.
My mum has always worked but as she worked for my grandparents she took us to work with her.

The idea of not working was completely alien to us. I had my first child at 18 and was back at work 3 months later. I just switched my shifts to evenings so my daughter always had one parent at home.
@Lightbulb - Now you are simply being inconsistent. You claim that you wanted viewpoints with both a social and/or a religious emphasis, but now wish to restrict that merely to social?

And secondly - it was you who introduced religion into your own thread when you introduced the topic of muslim beliefs and views!.

As for separating responses into purely social or purely religious context - cannot be done. Islam is more than simply a holy book - it has edicts on virtually all elements of the way individuals live, and those that believe - like yourself - see nothing wrong with that. Others of us do.

And social issues like motherhood are going to have an element of the religious; Many of our social conventions and institutions were informed,at least in part, by a religious outlook.

TheMorrigan might complain about hijacking of a thread, but it can hardly be described as hijacking if the author of the thread themselves explicitly introduces religion into the topic by specifically mentioning muslim thought. And Lightbulb can hardly seek to restrict posters responses to the purely secular when they themselves have introduced religion and then gone on to expound the benefits of their restrictive practices.
Lightbulb mentions religion in her first answer on the thread!

//but for myself, if I am of the opinion that something is evil I don't think I'd want to shut up about it.//

but is it evil?
Question Author
//i absolutely agree with that. In today's climate, yes women have to work, and i have nothing against that. If a women wants to work, than fine. I only put this up due to the times when many Muslims, like myself, have been criticized for saying stay at home mothers are good. Now it seems science is also starting to agree.//

one, you obviously didnt read my original answer and two, if you read the answer you would know why.
Question Author
//Lightbulb, you haven't been criticised for saying that stay at home mothers are good - you've been criticised for supporting Islam's penchant for dictating a woman's role in life.//

this is what Naomi said straight after. I mentioned islam, i was not the one who started the debate.
Lightbulb's a bloke, ummm.

Thanks Boxy. I thought he was saying he was a stay at home mum.
Hmm I had always assumed Lightbulb to be male, ummm. Pretty sexist of me, I guess.

@Lightbulb. You opened the door to commentary about Islam and belief when you said this "I only put this up due to the times when many Muslims, like myself, have been criticized for saying stay at home mothers are good. Now it seems science is also starting to agree"

Because the article contains no science, only the opinion of the author of the piece - so your comment that "science is also starting to agree" is simply factually incorrect.

Supporters of Islam often do this though- attempt to co-opt science in support of their faith. When you actually examine it though, it is invariably a misrepresentation of science that is being used in support, which to my mind is no different to outright lying.

themorrigan. This thread hasn’t been hijacked by anyone. In the OP’s own words….

//I only put this up due to the times when many Muslims, like myself, have been criticized for saying stay at home mothers are good.//

….. so it does have a theological theme to it - and that was the OP's intention. Furthermore, since religion plays a big part in both society and culture, the question is placed in an appropriate section.

I’ll read the rest of the posts now.
His profile says he's a bloke, naomi, but who knows?!
Question Author
