Cupid, so it's as I said. You demand respect for 'faith' - but only for your own and for those beliefs that suit you. You cannot claim that your faith deserves respect over another's because others have just as much faith as you - and in some instances far more. There were none more faithful aboard those planes that hit the World Trade Centre than the terrorists who hijacked them. If you want to respect faith, do it, but don't demand that others respect it too - because I for one do not - and if that doesn't suit your sensibilities, so be it.

By the way, the well-read atheists here don't believe it's all fairy tales - they know it is. Study Christian history - and read your bible - because if there is a God, it's not the fellow you think it is.

Elderman, //On the part of true Christian in order to achieve full godly devotion.//

So, if I have this right, your aim is to convert us all to full godly devotion? I can tell you now, you're wasting your time - and not only because for much of that time nobody has the foggiest idea what you're talking about, so how can you possibly expect anyone to take you seriously?

And as for bible study, I've studied it, but why does it never occur to you that truly learned men throughout history have also studied it and have come up with a plethora of different philosophies? Nevertheless, you think the interpretation of the people you listen to is right - and therefore you deem yourself qualified to preach to others. That is arrogance indeed.
If God had made parthenogeneses the rule rather than the exception, the World would be a much calmer place.

Well, for the accomplishment of his purposes. It is beneath his dignity and station to either coax or coerce any of his creatures to worship him. He resorts neither to threats of torment after death nor to physical harm in this life; Islam, the Roman Catholic Hierarchy, and many others, to the contrary notwithstanding. He is a God of love and so appeals to love in his creatures. (Jer. 19:5; Rom. 2:4) He bestows his blessings upon them and then advises them upon what conditions they can retain these and gain even more. Then it is up to them to make a decision, to accept God’s favors on his conditions or reject them and lose all, But if you are a atheists you are good as dead.
More inane waffle. Never any sense. Do the dead a favour and let them rest in peace.
It is about cheering yourself up during the cold dark season.
Naomi, your capacity to discuss the intricacies of total bollo x never ceases to amaze me.
My God - its windy outside and now full of wind in here..... what drivel, Elderman.
Count, ha ha! I'm on a mission to save lost souls. ;o)
Can you save mine then Naomi? I'd rather follow you and your common sense talk than the rantings and chatter from someone like Elderman...
Ad infinitum ad nausea ad break
daisy, it might help if anyone knew what he was talking about. Not much of a representative of the Almighty, is he? :o)
LOVE.

I may be able to speak the languages of men and even of angels, but if I have
no love, my speech is no more than a noisy gong or a clanging bell. I may have
the gift of inspired preaching; I may have knowledge and understand secrets;
I may have all the faith needed to move mountains-but If I have no love, I am
nothing. I may give away everything I have, and even give up my body to be
burnt - but If I have no love, this does me no good.
Love is patient and kind; it is not jealous or conceited or proud; Love is not
ill-mannered or selfish or irritable; love does not keep a record of wrongs; love is not happy with evil, but is happy with the truth. Love never gives up;
and its faith, hope and patience never fail.
Love is eternal. These are inspired messages, but they are temporary; there
are gifts of speaking in strange tongues, but these will cease; there is knowledge, but it will pass. For our gifts of knowledge and inspired messages
are only partial; but when what is perfect comes, then what is partial will
disappear. When I was a child my speech, feelings and thinking werre all those
of a child; now I am a man, I have no more use of childish ways. What we see
now is like a dim image in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. What I know
now is only partial; then it will be complete as God's knowledge of me.
Meanwhile these three remain: faith, hope and love; and the greatest of these
is love. (1 Corinthians 13) Good News Bible.
Count, if it causes you a problem, don't read it.
Cupid, and your point is?
The original question was what is christmas all about. I'm saying Love.
Surely even you believe this. You have a family that you love and so do I?
Can I ask you a serious question :- Did you once believe and something
happened to make you fall away. Even I don't profess that any church is
perfect [far from it]. If I'm way off I apologise.
Cupid, you are always welcome to ask me a serious question - seriously - and I will always do my best to answer. Yes, I was a Christian raised in a liberal Christian household by loving parents - but nothing happened to draw me away from Christianity. I simply began to educate myself in that area - to read books that highlighted the errors of religion which led me to check out the given biblical references and to read the more unsavoury bits of the bible that were never read to me in church. Hence, I discovered the doctrine of the Abrahamic religions to be utterly false and eventually realised that religion not only instils an unnecessary and evil fear into innocent or gullible minds, it creates hatred, conflict, and hence, separation to the human beings that inhabit this planet we all must share. That was a long time ago, but since then I have made an on-going study of religion, its history, and its surrounding myths and legends. In fact I suppose it would be true to say that it is my life's work in a way, because my study continues to this day - and nothing I've read has ever induced me to change my mind. It's a fascinating subject - well, to me at least.

If there is a God, it is not a jealous, or vindictive, or petty God, as the God of the bible readily confessed he was - and neither is it a personal God that takes a great interest in the indiscretions or otherwise of human beings and sends them to hell for eternity as a punishment for those indiscretions. What sort of God of love would that be? No. If a God exists, then it is something quite unimaginable. I would call it the spirit of the universe.

Incidentally, I sincerely believe that the most important thing in this world is love. Nothing else matters. x

Love may be based on many things—physical attraction, family relationship or mutual enjoyment of another’s companionship. But the Bible shows that, to be of true value, love must go beyond affection or mutual attraction and be governed by what is for the highest good of the loved one.

The Bible says: “Charm may be false, and prettiness may be vain.” The glittering wrappings of a gift tell you nothing of what’s inside. In fact, the most elegant wrappings may cover a useless gift.—Proverbs 31:30.

The Proverbs say: “As a gold nose ring in the snout of a pig, so is a woman that is pretty but that is turning away from sensibleness.” (Proverbs 11:22) Nose rings were a popular adornment during Bible times. They were exquisite, often made of solid gold. Naturally, such a ring would be the first piece of jewelry you would notice on a woman.
Appropriately, the proverb compares an outwardly beautiful woman who lacks “sensibleness” to a “nose ring in the snout of a pig.” Beauty simply does not befit a senseless woman; it is a useless ornament on her. In the long run, it no more makes her appealing than would a gorgeous nose ring beautify a pig! What a mistake it is, then, to fall ‘in love’ with the way someone looks—and ignore what that person is inside.
Elderman, it's clear you haven't a clue what I'm talking about - but self-obsessed people will never comprehend the concept of selfless love for their fellow man, so that's no surprise.

Your prophets are long dead - as is your spiteful God.
I sometimes wish I had the intellectual wherewithal to cross swords with some of the more erudite contributers to R&S.

John 4:8 and John Lennon: 'All you need is love'. Great minds thinking alike?
Did John 4:8 really say that Sandy or are you paraphrasing a little?
