In the short time I have been on this site, I have found that many people believe the lies that are told about God. These lies are usually perpetrated by the very ones who are supposed to teach us.
The most common lies are:
God is a mystery
Does not care about us
Is vengeful
Is unfair
He accepts all worship.
Of course there are many more which will no doubt raise their ugly heads during the course of this discussion.

Ankou,I like your answer is true
What is a prominent lie that is told by religious leaders today? It is similar to the one that Satan told Eve: “You positively will not die.” (Genesis 3:4) But Eve did die, and she returned to the earth, to the dust from which she was made.
China Doll //Who tells you that?! You got some little fella outside your door assaulting your ears everytime you step out?//

No. The Bible tells me so.

I don't have a problem with people believing in a God. But they should be at least honest and understand what they are backing when they say they believe in the Bible.

When they identify with a religion they implicitly provide that backing to something they don't necessarily consciously believe in. All I am saying is get concious. Any thinking person would then hurridly distance themselves from Abrahams' Monster.

The goal of atheists here is simpy to raise that consciousness.

Wow! So many responses in so short a time! Do I get first prize?
I had fun going through and reading what you all have to say, so now
Lets hope you have some fun reading through my responses to your
Responses.

I will respond in order they were made (at least I hope I do) forgive me if I miss anyone out. I am only human!!

Hopkirk:
One of the lies = he doesn’t exist. Does he?
Boxtops:
True. So where can we find the truth? BTW I wouldn’t dream of converting anyone.
Avanlarf:
Don’t worry I won’t havalarf.

That’s why I posted this question – to see what they say.

Only authority as I see it is the Bible.

So I am a prat am I? Why? Because I asked a simple question to start a discussion. I am not trying to force my beliefs on you or anyone else.

That’s one of the lies I mentioned. Bible texts will clarify this.

True Religion has a lot to answer for.
Lottie
Many beliefs true. But if there is one God, surely there should be one religion.

When I said, “raised their ugly heads” I was not referring to people - in this instance I was referring to other lies.
As for being destined to hell. What is hell? Another lie. Hell is not to be feared, we all go there, Christian Athiest etc. etc.
Old Geezer
Not from where I am standing. Even religious leaders who should know truth prefer to teach and believe lies.
Elderman
Yet another lie to add to the list?
There is only one God? How do you know?

Please don't say because the Bible says so, because I don't see the Bible as anything but a very interesting book written by men.

I don't knock your faith and beliefs at all, but really truly believe that it is very naive to take the Bible as being the 'Word of God'.

And if there should be only one religion, who would determine what the religion should be?
I need say no more, Beso has said it all and far better than I could ever say it.

I rest my case!!
I find it ineresting Truthabounds that the one person you didn't snap off one of your glib self serving one liners to was Beso.

But then the truth hurts doesn't.

Beso - well said.
You must be standing in the wrong spot.
Carrust - thank you for posting that link. I'm with you on that one.
Someone once asked the atheistic philosopher, Bertrand Russell, what he would say to God if it turned out that He DID exist and asked why he had not believed in Him. He replied, "Not enough evidence, God...not enough evidence." I'd go further if it happened to me. I'd say, "No evidence, God...no evidence."
If anyone means to respond to this, please refer solely to evidence that would stand up in a scientific laboratory.
I am an agnostic which I suppose to some people is a cop out, but I do find it hard to believe in a god who is all seeing and all forgiving etc etc and on the other hand evolution makes (to me) a lot of sense. After saying all that, I so want to be reunited with my Grandma and Grandad and other loved ones when my time comes. This to me is why I am agnositc.
To me it is a personal thing, if someone believes in God that is their choice and right, as long as they do no harm, ie blow up planes or people! But then one does not have to believe in anything to do that!
was just about to say the same dave the dog...i noticed beso was bypassed too...probably a few others who made proper comments

no need to explain though...i think we all know exactly why you 'accidentally-on-purpose' missed them out

you have not the words or intelliegence to challenge it.

the 'answers' you did give were hardly enlightening and on the whole pointless.
Agree net
notasyoung: I think we elders have more tolerance than the youngsters!
I find it difficult to believe that a deity would care whether Bertrand Russell or anyone else for that matter, actually believed in them.
I find that as I age I have less tolerance, not more. Daily I get more and more fed up of authorities of all sorts still trying to push me around. Too old to be putting up with it any more. But as for others' beliefs, they can believe what they like as long as it doesn't affect me.
In some things I'm tolerant net, but I think Old_Geezer has a good point there!
Actually yes agree totally with Old_geezer, having just won a 5yr fight with the spanish authorities who were trying to take my land (in the middle of nowhere for nothing!) I was not tolerant of their ignorance

Only authority as I see it is the Bible.//

So what other works have you read to enable you to reach that conclusion - and who do you think tells lies about God? You haven't made that clear, so I'm not quite sure where you're coming from with this question.
