In ANY sense of the word it is slang for people. "I'm goin to see my peeps" A gay man might say when speaking of plans to hang out with other gay men. I say this when I am going to see my family. Other peeps say it just referring to anybody.

Peeps is the gay slang for 'going to the lavatory'. When they say 'I'm going to visit my peeps', it means they need to go to the bathroom.
