It really depends on the person & what i'm saying sorry for, if it's something i say at the spur of the moment and i know it was uncalled for at the time & that person is hurt by it then ill say sorry there and then however if i'm having an arguement with someone and it's nothing too serious i usually let it boil over.
It makes me cringe when I accidently say sorry when someone barges into me LOL
We've all done it tho!
PS Hi coggles :oP

Hello PaulB, I do that all the time and then think, 'hang on, they should have said sorry!'
I say sorry very easily, but I don't say it if I don't mean to say it. The other thing I don't do is hold a door open for someone, and then thank them, when they thank me first - sometimes we are just anally polite as a nation!

andy hughes, at least you hold open doors for people! If I do the same and people don't thank me it annoys me because I always say thank you.
I even apologise to insects coggles if I accidentally tread on one. :D

Cetti, me too - aren't we sad?
I always say sorry, please, thankyou etc and am terribly polite. This isn't just because I am basically a wonderful human being, but I'm trying to set a good example to my toddler who, bless her, is at the "I want..." "Gimme...." "That's mine.." stage, and I'd like to get her out of it ASAP!
Aawww @ Cetti!

Kit, I was brought up to say please, thank you etc and am in the process of doing the same as you with our 3 year old! It's working too, she says pardon if she doesn't hear me - or completely ignores me if it's to ask her to tidy her room!!!
Hi Coggles,

I find myself apologising for everything, but the one thing I am really trying to stop myself from doing is apologising down the phone to the person who has dialled incorrectly, "no, you've got the wrong number....sorry about that!". Why should I be the one apologising? They disturbed me, not the other way round!

PaulB is so right about the whole saying sorry to someone who has bumped into you, too! That's another one that I have tried to stop doing. I am currently trying to master a withering stare, but I haven't quite got the hang of it yet!

Asided from the subject of apologising, I do really think it is important for people to have good manners. As my Mum always said when I was a kid, 'manners cost nothing'. Good on you Coggles, for teaching manners to your children.....sadly, I think you are probably now in the minority amongst parents.

I have always said 'I may not speak the Queens English, but I am polite!'
How can I possibly say sorry if I'm never in the wrong?
