remember a photo?

Can anyone lead me to a famous black and white photograph taken in the 1920/30s of a street of Coronation Street type back to back houses leading down to the sea with a ship passing the end of the sttreet and dwarfing the houses. I guess it's connected with a famous ship or shipyard and is possibly in the north east somewhere. I'd be grateful for the name of the ship/photo/photographer/website for it.

No idea which photo you're talking about - but you could try searching the Francis Frith collection at http://www.francisfrith.com/uk/ It also may be worth looking on www.google.co.uk - there is a tab at the top of the search page for images, although deciding the key words might be difficult.

Thanks Kit, I found it in the end with the help of the National Maritime Museum. Named the Dominion Monarch it was the biggest passenger diesel liner and was requisitioned as a troop ship in WW2, escaped a Japanese fleet in Singapore by slipping past them out of the harbour, (no mean feat when you see the size of it) was a floating hotel at the World Trade Fair in Seattle and eventually was bought by a Japanese company and scrapped. woodpam -- thanks for including the URL even though you had to get the answer from somewhere else.I'd tried to find the picture for you (and failed) but your question had piqued my interest: it was good to see the photograph again.
