Would you deliberately sit separately to your young kids on a flight ?

//Some have suggested she "look after" her children and sit with them.

This, Ms Allsopp said - was "utter rubbish", adding that having her sons in premium seats seemed "an absurd waste of money" and "very spoiling".

She pointed out the money saved from not buying two more expensive seats allows her family to "take a shed load of holidays".//

At 10 & 12 the last place they'd probably want to sit is next to Mum - seems fine at that age.
Jeez. Another storm in a tea cup.
Surely going on a family holiday includes flying together? It's a bit like going on a yearly family holiday and sticking the kids in a Kids Club .
If she were my mother, I'd want to be as far away as possible...different plane even.
Don't have kids, but it seems a great idea. How about different resorts on arrival too ?
Surely the savings would be even more of the kids went club class and the parents went economy?

Or perish the thought, they all went economy.
her logic is flawed, if they all sat in economy, they could
take even a larger "shed loads of holidays".
Her kids - its not as if she is abusing them is it!!
I wouldn't want to sit in business class with children either - its happened in premimum economy and that was hell!!
We have done that. Although the "kids" were in their 20s. I don't think they had a problem with it. In fact, on one long haul flight, Mr.Sam refused to have a Business Class seat, so I turned left and he turned right.
At 10 and 12 I see no problem with it all. "It's a bit like going on a yearly family holiday and sticking the kids in a Kids Club" - as 1000s of families do!
I expect she believes she will appreciate the benefits of club class so it's not wasted money for her; whereas her kids would just disrupt and not benefit so it's a waste of money for them to be other than in economy.
Words fail me.

What an appalling way to act as a parent.
Interesting how people view it differently - we never wanted to sit near Mum on the bus.

Always wanted to go upstairs or sit in the back row - I should imagine Kirstie's sons are much the same.
i agree with the person in the article who points out that easyjet will seperate your kids from you for free.
Family is family - not them and us. Most parents would not wish to miss the pleasure of travelling together. Assume the fact was publicised for free publicity.
Depends how well behaved the kids are
i think at that age the kids would probably prefer to be apart from their parents anyway. Seems like a sensible plan, I doubt they need the extra room that is the main plus of premium seating and i expect they save a bundle too.
I am sure at that age I would have been perfectly ok , so long as I had something to read.
I'd sit with my kids but I wouldn't have an issue with them sitting on their own....it'll be their choice
I wouldn't criticise her but it's not what I would do....
Our holidays started with the journey and it was fun to share all that went on during a flight.

I would want my children near me if there was a bad landing...or an emergency landing but especially...god forbid....a crash of some sort...
I know it's a rare happening....but nevertheless..... x
