I rang the surgery today to ask for the next available appointment. Much humming and arring from the receptionist who finally came up with May 3rd.

What? I could be dead by then...

That's right Tilly - think 3-4 weeks is standard
If you are you'll have made someone's day by them getting a cancellation. :-)
3 weeks to have a normal consultation at my surgery. I expect there are emergency appointments available if you ask and one is necessary. Last time I was told to go to A and E!!
Just remember to cancel your appt before you die.
goodness, I thought our 7-10 days was bad. (And when my OH got an appointment in three days last week it was plain miraculous.)

Do you have a walk in centre anywhere near? That's what I mostly use for anything urgent these days, but I don't know if they're an option everywhere.
Is it urgent?
A few weeks ago I called to doctors to get a prescription. There was a very large lady standing at the reception doing much gnashing and wailing and saying to receptionist - I need an appointment - I am so sick. She went on at length - receptionist (a bit dopey) continued to ignore her. The lady left quite upset not getting an appointment. Think the receptionists are "trained" to deal with this.

We do have a walk in centre in Bedford but you have to wait for hours.

I'll just soldier on for the next three weeks and hope that my 'thing' doesn't get any worse.
Our surgery offers online booking of appointments or, as long as you don't mind which quack you get to see, same day appointments if you phone first thing.

It might be urgent, Ummmm. I don't know. I'd just like to get it looked at.

We ring our Surgery at 08:00 when switchboard opens, normally get a same day non-emergency appointment.
our doctors are brilliant at the worst if we call for an appointment its within 48 hours
I've never had to wait long for an appointment even when I've told them it's not urgent.
We have a night surgery (I have never used it) but apparently until recently you walked in and maybe was seen to within an hour.

Now the rules are you must ring up beforehand and talk to doctor - exactly what you have to do during the day.

I would say the night-time clinic was getting abused by the usual morons
yes, I usually need to wait 3 hours, but that's better than 3 weeks. For anything really scary, A&E.

Anyway, 600mg ibuprofen and monitor the situation.

Doing that, Jno. Thank you. :-)
That’s awful I phoned today and had a choice of tomorrow Monday or Wednesday!

I will survive!

Just the same here ,Patsy. They have always been so accommodating in the past. I am shocked by this turn of events.

In three weeks, I will either be...
1 Better
2 Worse
3 The same
4 Deceased.
