Cat Milk

Do any of you give your cats milk? Mine always normally just has water but I bought him a little bottle of Whiskers cat milk as a treat today, I mean I'd get bored drinking just water every day. He seems to like it but I'm wondering if it's actually a bit rubbish for his delicate little tummy.

I think it is only a problem if the cat is lactose intolerant (as many cats are). My mum`s cat drinks cow`s milk (watered down) but not every day. Just as a treat. She`s obviously not lactose intolerant and the vet says that in that case, it is OK for her.

I would just use it as a treat nowand again - especially when on offer - it's normally tetra packed so will store. Guess you will soon know if it's not suiting him - you will find the Mangetouts

Whiskas Cat Milk contains far less lactose than normal cow's milk, so it's unlikely to upset their stomachs. Even so, it might be best to keep it as a treat, rather than to feed it to your cat regularly.

I'm not sure, though, where you get your idea that a cat has a 'delicate little tummy'. Mine eats her way through (still live) wood pigeons plus blackbirds, mice, shrews and various unidentified fauna without ever making herself ill.

Oh really, I didn't realise that was a common problem for cats. I guess I'll just check that it seems to sit well with him over the next couple of days. I only intend to give it to him occasionaly as a treat.

It's an animal, not a human being. You might get bored with water every day but animals don't.

We give Sooty milk now and again as a treat. It's the only treat she gets as she doesn't like any "normal" cat treats. She eats dry food cos it's the only thing she will eat. She's a fussy eater! lol

No, don't give cats milk, they really can't digest it satisfactorily. They have cats milk as babies, and don't need any other animal milk after that.

Feeding milk to cats is entirely unnatural. Kittens take milk from their mothers and once weaned, would normally never drink milk again. If you think about it, mammals naturally produce a customised food for their young, and the idea of feeding this to adults of an entirely species is (not to put to fine a point on it) utterly weird.

Absolutely it has. I drink milk quite a lot. Particularly if I have a hang over.

Seems opinion is divided but as it doesn't seem to be doing him any harm I think I'll keep giving it to him every now and then as he seems to like it.

Most cats aren't delicate - common water gives them all they need. Mine drink most out of a disgusting old tin shovel in the garden.

the cat's digestive system can't be half as finicky as ours, if you think that a cat spends half its time licking its backside....

Where has all this come from? A manufacturer no doubt! My cat is never ill (touch wood) and runs to the fridge every time I open it - for milk! He has it every day and has got to a ripe old age. He will drink rain water, never tap water.

I've tried my fusspots on Cat Milk and they just turn their noses up at it.
