If the lights go in Derby Robi it could be me. In my kitchen I have a fitting with 3 hi-spot bulbs in and one has gone and I'm b******d if I can get it out. I'll have another go tomorrow when it's daylight. Other than that it's wait until number 2 son comes over to help. There must be an easy way to do it but I haven'[ discovered it yet.
Haha..that's exactly what I end up doing Neti :) We had no deccies last year as we were away as you know so when I do fish the lights out it will be two years since I last saw them and I expect they are just a tangled mess which I lose patience with after about five minutes trying to untangle 'em .
I've been very virtuous today though and cleaned the windows . So that's something towards it .
My dear old Mum in law has been gone a year tomorrow .Where does the time go .

"A handbag " Kit ..that's Lady Bracknell in The Importance of being Earnest who say that famous line .When she finds out that Jack was found as a baby,in a handbag at a railway station .
Hope you are all OK otherwise .Bright and sunny here today again . Toodlepip for now.

Three cheers .....................as Robinia lights up the whole of Derbys ..........

hahahahaha....they'd cart me off if I put that lot up shaney! I don't do outdoor lights at all, I don't do climbing & everyone's too busy to ask at this time of year.
Jude you've just reminded me that I had a gizmo for removing spotlights, I must have a look, mine are bound to go sooner or later...it was a sucker thingy like the end of a child's arrow (probably not allowed anymore with the elf & safety police). Have you got any of that rubber mesh grippy stuff that you use for taking tops off jars? Or have you tried wearing a rubber glove?
Shaney the time does go. I think for a while you feel it more about a year later (well i did) as the numbness wears off. Bought twinkly white led lights this year, no glass for pups to chew on. DH always insists on coloured lights but he wasn't there when I bought these ha ha.
Unexpected benefit to kitchen shenanigans is that we have cleared out the garage today (to store the new kitchen in before its fitted and we have got rid of LOADS of stuff that we (DH) have been hanging on to.
all else fails soluition to removing a lightbulb is to turn off the electricity, put a thick bag around the bulb and brealk it then use pliers to get the bulb out gripping its innards. TURN THE LECKY OFF FIRST unless you want a free afro lol
You're right about the year later thing woofy...this year feels so strange without our brother... I still put up one of the last xmas cards my mum sent to me & she's been gone 8 years...
Thanks for the tips about getting the bulb out Woofy and Robi. I think I'll try the rubber gloves first. Sounds a smart idea.
Also the plunger effect could work well I imagine.
I wont forget to switch the lecky off either Woofy.

Hope you all have a good night. I understand it's going to get colder so wrap up warm.

See yer later 'gater(s)
I can't help thinking about my Mum. The first Christmas without her. I feel I ought to be buying her a Christmas present.

Tomorrow I am off to Holt again with my neighbour to have a good browse round a store called Larners (which is probably one of the super delicatessens that Woofie went to). Larners has now spread out all down the high street and is a maze of fabulous departments. We shall probably have lunch there too. I better put on my county set outfit. Holt is very posh.

Wow, I must purchase one of these. What a bargain!!

I jest of course. I will have to stick with me M&S fleeces at £9.50!! (I prefer then actually).
Shaney ! In a tangle? I wrap mine round empty kichen roll innards with the plug going in a little slot at one end and the last bulb in a little slot tother end!

Was only thinking yesterday about my mum walking through the door saying she'd been to Oz, and she's been dead 20 yrs now! and wondering what she'd say to the improvements to her little house.
Evening all, just reporting in to say I'm still alive and no side effects so far except for a lump which is developing even as we speak... (start thriller movie music NOW) Lots of Mums haunting this thread this evening - I dreamed about mine last night. I said "I'll be with you in a minute" - hope it's not prophetic...!

I wouldn't break light bulbs of any kind Woofy and Jude, there are unhealthy components in them. Wonder who replaces the lights in the Christmas tree in Gamla stan (Old Town). I rode past it on a bus this afternoon, it's magnificent http://i48.tinypic.com/207up2v.jpg Went to Clas Ohlson (this is a memory test biddies, now what was Clas Ohlson's - I mentioned it the other day!) and to the Christmas market for some more Dutch cheese, and for the first time in my life I set foot in a boutique where they sell very fancy schmancy evening gowns. No I don't need one... but I saw a necklace in the window that I've seen people wear on the telly and I'm a bit in love with it. It's gazillions of skulls. Yes. Skulls. Beset with Swarowski crystals and marcasites. The saleslady said it becomes me. Erm. Not sure what to make of that. *Dahling you should aalways wear hundreds of skulls around your neck, it's so you.* It's this one but honestly the photo doesn't do it justice, it's much prettier IRL http://i45.tinypic.com/259vnlj.jpg ...but too costly :'(

Oh! Trust Oscar to write about handbags! Thanks Shaney. Lottie I LOVE that jacket!!!!!!!
Neti ..my life is a tangle let alone the bloody lights .I am always in a permanent muddle :)

Make sure you take a big fat wallet if you're going to Larners Lofty !! Make sure you have your green wellies and Barbour on and watch out for the Chelsea tractors .:))
Last time I went to Holt we went into an antique shop and my brother bought me a lovely tureen for my blue and white collection
My Dad was in hospital near Holt ( the old Kelling sanitorium ) many years ago .That's where they removed his left lung ,or most of it .And funnily enough my sis in law was in there as a girl with TB .It's long gone though now .
Clas Ohlson ? Now ....let me think ...oh yes ....a gadget for every occasion :)
I wonder if they sell Christmas light untanglers .........and lightbulb getter outers.
I'm a bit worried about our Jude ...........

Shaney, my Dad spent time in Kelling hospital too, in 1980, in the year before he died. We will drive past it on our way to Hold in the morning. In holds bad memories. Shaney, I have lots of blue and white stacked away. Remind me. It came from Mother in Law. In fact only t his week I have been packing it away for the loft!! Do you still collect it. I am trying to gradually find it new homes. I don't dislike it, just doesn't go with anything else I have.

Don't worry, I am only going to have a good browse round Larners. It has literally grown down most of the High Street, swallowing up lots of the small shops. A total maze!! The food hall might be the most tempting!!

I have been so stupid today. Went to have a coffee with my gardener friend who informed me that the local Focus were selling all the bulbs off at 45p per pack instead of about £2.50, so off we trotted and now I have yet a load more bulbs to plant - about 9 packs in total!! Daffs, Tulips, Crocus, Alliums and Muscari. Oh dear -will I never learn. No wonder I get aches and pains. Mind you the mice have been having fun digging up some of the already planted ones.
Good morning sunshine.!

Lovely day?! I'll give ya lovely day Vincent, it's fik wi fog here...ok so it's not thick anymore, just misty & murky and very cold - birds had little blowlamps on their bath this morning. What were you asking the Ed? I'm sure where ever we are we can throw up a few dodgy lights & roll in a bran tub...if you're really missing the outside lav we can stick a tin bucket in the corner next to an open window.

Bulbs? A gadget for everything? Jude struggling in the dark? See how I can tie those 3 topics together....take a look at this, hahahaha...it's uses are limitless...never buy your own light bulbs again, just take it out with you & pinch other peoples....snaffle whole edam cheeses out of shopping trolleys... lordy, I'm in hysterics here.... When she does the light over the stairwell I was expecting her to lose her balance & disappear!
yes, yes, I forgot the link...I meant to do it...

Lovely day here, cept I want cold!!!

Got four parcels full of pressies (thanks to my lovely sisters) so must make a start of the decs.

Just been to a xmas market (no, nothing like you are thinking) in a bar 4 stalls and one of the Avon! Got a lovely crusty loaf of cheese and onion bread - 3€ so am gobbing it down as fast as I can cos don't want to share any. Will, no doubt suffer from indigestion later.

Am defrosting the outside freezer (the no-frost one!), and resisting the urge to stab it with a knife cos I killed the other one that way. Have hammered gently on last remaining stubborn lumps of ice, byt they are not melting. Have got 6 loaves and 2 packets of sausages to get intoi freezer asap and the inside one is full of the stuff from the outside, ah the problems of an ibicenco housewife!!!!

Saw "The boat that rocked " last night, really enjoyed it!
Dear ED.
Ooooarrr, ooooarrr, ooooarrr, 'ow be you? I be alright. 'ow be you? I be alright too. Arrrrrrr!!!
I think you and your spare ed be doing a fine job under the circumstances(you and him not knowing what you be doing like)would it be possible to start a xmas thread fer the biddys and keep it anonemous...anonimou...keep it a secret.!from all the other peasants.this be it *****************************.looking forward to your reply.Merry christmas vinny.
ps..if you dont write back I will know your busy talking b******s in CB.xxx.

This is of course a joke..(:O)
its silly isn't it? When I was shopping this year I kept seeing things and thinking "Oh I'll get that for Mum for Christmas" and still on sundays around 4 pm I feel there is something that I should be doing. I phoned Mum on wednesdays and sundays for about 15 years.
Sorry...sorry, come on Vinny where's the grotto I want to get the tree up, can't do it here till christmas eve on account of the new kitchen.

Old fashioned lightbulbs don't have nasties in them but the new energy saving ones do KIt.
I'll have a chunk of that please neti to dunk in this mug of tommy soup I'm huddled around

ooh arrrr, I see what you be arrrskin Vinny....I think it's unlikely that will happen, it's a month old Q or nowt I'm afraid. Maybe you need to track down the great AB leader it seems he's a contributor...
