My daughter is 20 on monday, she had a little boy nearly 2 years who she adores, had rough time with his dad, on/off relationship. they were together last year for her birthday so i didnt want to interfere and assumed her partner would get her something from little boy-i was totally wrong-not even a card!!!this year they are no longer together and i wanted to get something special for her to keep from her little man.....but need ideas as to what! Thanx for any ideas.

how about a locket with a photo of her and a her son in it?

Oh and if you can, get him to scribble in a card.

I am not sure how you would go about this, but when mother used to often go away on business trips, we were about 3 and 8, My younger borther and I recorded on a little microphone "We love you Mummy, lots and lots! Come home soon" and slipped it in her suitcase on the sly.

She said it was the best present she had ever got and kept it for years until it stopped working, much to her dismay.

Maybe something similar?
