How to tell whether a garment is real silk?

Ok, recently i purcchased a Thomas Wylde scarf from Ebay (bad idea btw). Had it for about 2 weeks now but have noticed its really worn along the seams etc. Anyways i was just wondering if any1 knows how to tell if its real silk or not or/and any other way to identify its authenticity. Really grateful for ne help
