cool photos huh? well i think so, i love looking at stuff like this. anyway, i was curious to why there seems to be so many randomly abandonded places around pyote...so i went to wiki...

It nearly bit you. If you had clicked on the Wiki link Pyote Air Force Base I think you would have found the explanation you are seeking.

I've always been fascinated by ghost towns. Have you checked out photos of Pripyat, near Chernobyl? A modern city, once home to 50,000 people, abandoned after the explosion at the nearby nuclear power plant. Wild animals roam the empty streets at night. School classrooms left as they were with books on desks, but everything covered in dust. Very post-apocalyptic and freaky.

Take a look at Tyneham in Dorset, near to Lulworth Cove. You can visit the deserted village on certain dates, all subject to activity on the surrounding firing ranges. It is really eerie, schoolroom left just as it was, old style red telephone box etc. Well worth a visit and if you are feeling energetic, some lovely walks over the surrounding cliffs.
