I heard on the news this morning that a survey had been done about happiness> It stated that the more siblings a child has, the less happy he/she is. Also that they were more likely to being bullied at home and school.
I am one of 13. We never bullied each other (just playful) and as far as I know none of us bullied at school. We all had a lot of confidence because we supported each other. schoolmates were frightened of our elder brother getting them if they touched us, ha ha.
And now we are all good friends with each other and even our kids are best mates.
Surely we are not unusual. We have always been happy and still are

How does this survey rate with you ?

Hi Brid (that name sounds good doesnt it)

I too am from a big family and I cant say we had many disputes as kids. we have great family get togethers now we are all older,50-70. There are one or two I dont really like as people but we get on ok.
We were not bullied at school but perhaps jibed at a bit as we had second hand clothes etc. but we were a happy family
im one of 4 though, going by your example, that may not be classed as a big family.

But I am happy and i think that generally my siblings are too
like most surveys...pants.

Surely the more sibling you have the less likely to are to be bullied at school. All those brothers and sister ready to protect their family!
can you imagine in this day and age 13 in one house it would look like an internet cafe :)
i reckon it's best to have either only one child or loads - there seems to be more sibling rivalry when there are just 2 oor 3 of you or at least that is my experience although must admit that with one sister i was not aware of any rivalry but thinking back there were one or two things that could have been classed as such!

I am the eldest of 3 and can relate to this!
I don't know what I would do without my sister and brother. Originally I had three brothers and two sisters but two brothers and one sister have passed away. My sisters and brothers were also my friends and the remaining ones still are.

Brid, I thought I had a big family, I'm the youngest of 7 but 13 - wow! I suppose we should be cracking open the anti-depressants.

I would say we are all reasonably happy. We all have our own little problems but then who doesn't. I was just thinking yesterday about what a good job our parents had done with us as we have all turned out to be decent, hard working, caring people. I don't really see how the size of your family could effect your overall happiness though. In fact, if anything I would suggest it is the contrary. Having a big family, there is always someone I can turn to with a problem and that certainly helps.
i only have one brother and i am a miserable sod !!!! :)
