Leibniz
leibniz
Question Author
It does not fit as I have "hairpin pend" as the answer to 12a sharply curving racetrack feature
Wyddfa - it should be hairpin BEND !!!
Hairpin Bend. Will fit now but all my reference books spell the mathematician as leibniTz !! Better get some new ones!!
Question Author
Sorry I do have hairpin bend (typing error) earlier. The "R" in hairpin is what could be Lorentz as opposed to Leibniz !
the R in hairpin does not intersect with the down clue the I does

Question Author
it's HAREPIN bend, therefore Leibniz fits.
Hairpin Bend is correct - if the compiler has it as "Harepin"
they have got it wrong
12a, hairpin bend
