Did the compiler mistake a h for n (or n for h) when he wrote in his answers?

vermouth and conference both seem so right!

What are the clues??
Question Author
It is a drink - Italian Vermouth

Meeting to iron things out? - Press Conference
Question Author
the n in conference and the h in vermouth is where they intersect.
Both those answers look fine to me, especially if other answers fit in with them. I have actually seen that first clue before and the answer was Italian Vermouth then too (as in 'Gin & It').

Yes, as I said I think the compiler may have read an n for an h! How we submit it goodness knows!
I'm also with you on this...vermout(h) and confere(n)ce MUST be correct..
however, don't get 18ac "bartenders knock back endlessly on Sunday"...must be tapsters...knock back (pat=tap) Sunday = s ...then???
I put both h and n in the square but I'm sure either will be accepted.
