Dear John?

Surgical spirit?

father dear father

Surgical Spirit (TV series) - Wikipedia

still can't do links since things on AB were changed!

The setter has asked that we don't ask for help on the internet.

Me neither brainiac. Some improvement eh?

First one is "Dear Ladies".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oh,_Doctor_Beeching!

To paste a link right click next to the flashing vertical line in the answer box.

Except that just takes you to the Wiki definition of the word 'oh'.

'Dear John'  works too  :)

Dear John doesn't work because the letter count is 4 and 6

If the letter count is 4, 6 then Father Dear Father doesn't work either!

"Dear John" doesn't work  because the answer is 4, 6 and the clue is, "not cheap [and not] gentlemen",  with "ladies" being the opposite of, "gentlemen".

Yes, but 'john' can be 'gentlemen' as in toilet  :)

John can never be stretched to the 6 letters needed

I think dear john is wrong but it can Barry, Johnny.

"The setter has asked that we don't ask for help on the internet"

AB isn't bothered by that sort of thing! Anything which increases the question count is all that they care about...
