What do you think is the best ever British sitcom? And does anyone remember the one set in the sausage factory, with Dora Bryan, called 'Both Ends Meet'?

has to be only fools and horses
Only Fools + Horses
Fawlty Towers
Steptoe + Son
Porridge
Hancock
Reggie Perrin
Blackadder (except the first series excluding the Peter Cook bits)

any of those for an evening would have me in stitches.
Question Author
Mine would be

The Royle Family
Steptoe & Son
Till Death Us Do Part
Man about the House
BlackAdder
Fawlty Towers (or Flowery T**** own asterisks)

never liked only fools

My all time top 5 favourites of all time mate, not half, alright, are..........

1 Porridge
2 Only Fools & Horses
3 Phoenix Nights
4 Blackadder Goes Forth
5 The Office
Although I love Fawlty Towers, Father Ted and many other sit coms, there is one that I always watch when it is on - PORRIDGE.

Brilliant writing and wonderful performances from all the main performers.

And it had its wonderful moments of pathos, which were nearly always punctuated by a terrific punch line.

And Ronnie Barker is just perfect as Fletch.
Dream Stuffing.
All Gas and Gaiters.
Never the Twain.
Don't Wait Up.
Three Up, Two Down.

Mine's 'Dad's Army'. I've seen them all so many times and I know what's coming, yet they still make me laugh. That my son and my mother find them just as funny is testament to its brilliance.

Credit where it's due, though, 'Fools and Horses' and 'Open All Hours' take a close second and third.

I'm also a big fan of 'Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em'. It may be dated, but the timing, stunts and slapstick are classics of which the only comparable examples have to be those of Buster Keaton.

God, i'd forgotten Dad's Army and Phoenix Nights. I like the more obscure choices like yours, Ethel. Did you also like the Dustbin Men and Never Mind the Quality, Feel the Width?
Only Fools and Horses

I agree with Mr Bond...it has to be Porridge by a mile. Still funny now decades later.
Fawltey Towers and Dinnerladies are my two favourites.

Never really like Only Fools and Horses.

Also there was brilliant one called Chance in a Million on channel 4 with Simon Callow, great stuff but hasnt been repeated in years.
no it was mrs doyle in father ted, the most boring sit com ever was dads army porridge was also rubbish
The one that guarantees me belly laughs is gimme gimme gimme

Blackadder
Hancock`s Half Hour
Some Mother's Do Have 'em
Are You Being Served? (Dated, but the best double
entendres!)
Vicar of dibley
My family(WITH kris marshall)
