And why?

While we're at it 'reaching out' is the new 'asking', again, why?

I blame the CIA of course, dumbwashing the world. :-)

I should have added that if you don't know that's okay too. x
On a topical note, Dougie, would A Gender Recognition Certificate be considered a "hack".

More urgently... will Nicola be able to get hers before Westminster scuppers it?
Around the the same time that "Tips" became "Recycling Centres".
When did 'experience' become 'lived experience'?
When did everything people do become their 'journey'?
When did 'meet' become 'meet up'?
When did 'lead' become 'lead up'?
When did 'lever' become 'leverage' and will it suffer more americanised prolongationment to become 'leveragisationment'?
Atheist... also, when did a simple story become a "narrative"?

Five-year-old children at bedtime...

"Daddy Daddy... read me a narrative............." ;o(
When the know-nothings on the Internet adopted the name change to annoy everyone else.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_hack#:~:text=The%20term%20life%20hack%20was,to%20get%20their%20work%20done.

I assume "hack" is being used in the meaning when hacking through the undergrowth to make the progress easier.
Sorry, I forgot about 'narrative'.
And when did 'optics' get co-opted to mean 'appearance'?
And when did 'no' become 'negatory'?
Probably just after the know-nothings in the media misunderstood what a hacker was and started using the title to describe folk breaking in to others' servers etc. and thus destroying the valued title.
I have no idea Douglas but it does really annoy me along with the other words raised above.

And why do "shoppers go Wild" apart from a few Sales, mainly years ago no one does.
Arrrgh - reaching out - never heard that phrase until a year or so ago now anybody under 40 who wants to say 'asked' says reached out instead. I must hear it 5 times a day. Hate it.
Negatory, about 1973 cast iron fact!! By which I mean that’s the first time I heard it, predictably, in the USA, Charleston Carolina. language is always going to evolve , not always for the better. My solution is to speak correctly whenever I can. I will not start a sentence with the word so, and never use the word “like” wrongly. Etc etc it’s a dilution of standards that we are forced to hear everyday, so help me!!
Thinking about a little more,
When did reaching out become “outreach”
We can blame BT for that last one
According to the Oxford English Dictionary, "negatory" has been in use in America since at least 1955.
