Border Force taking strike action the day we fly (Manchester) as it was around £450 cheaper when booking than flying from our local airport, Manchester is one of those striking whilst Newcastle is not, so I decided to change flights (RA)for £45 pp each way , there's 4 of us, should be £180, we had already paid £1,891.84 for the Manchester flights, as often happens , the N/C flights have come down although I knew we wouldn't be refunded the difference, the cost of changing has come in at a staggering £853 for 4 of us which we won't pay
Merry Christmas all you Strikers

You're not going?
Question Author
doesn't look that way Naomi , talking to a 'bot' isn't helping either
If they can't fly you from your chosen airport, the airline should make alternative provisions ... but they won't !! :-(

Now if only this cloud had a silver lining - do you think with Border Force on strike they'll be nobody to go and fetch the criminals (oops, I mean asylum seekers) from the middle of the channel?
Oh that's a shame. You were so looking forward to it too. There must be thousands affected. Taking industrial action over Christmas is just mean-spirited.

I am against all strike action , cant think why
Why are people so keen to get out of the UK all the time .Spend your vacations in the UK and help the economy.
Some Abers Couldn't get out of the E.U quick enough And now they can,t wait to holiday in thre E.U and boost their economy,,...hahah .a
Weather. Gulliver - but personally I prefer the Caribbean.
I'm sure Bobbi will be eternally grateful for your contribution, Gulliver.

Where are you holidaying in 2023?
Question Author
in his darkened room in deepest Hull Lcg haha
We were disappointed not to be able to go to Sweden for Christmas but now I’m quite/very glad circumstances prevented us from booking.
What a bummer for you, Bobbi :(
I wouldn't cancel a much looked forward to holiday for just £200 , I mean you said you originally saved £450 by booking the Manchester flight, so in reality it's only an extra £100 or so.
Question Author
More frustrating trying to actually speak to a human being and if the flight doesn't go through BFORCE then we are stuck in Manchester the day before Xmas Eve,
Surely flying out of the UK shouldn't be too much of a problem. Most of the issues are usually inbound
That's a shame Bobbi. After this past year, a change to sunshine and warmth would have been a welcome change for you and your family.

It;ll effect baggage handlers as well as Passports I would imagine Cal
talking to a 'bot' isn't helping either
how rude - no wonder Naomi complains about abuse on these threads !
Question Author
It certainly would Pasta

You paid £1891 for Manchester flights saving £450 ( Newastle would have been £2431)
To change your tickets would cost an extra £880 bringing the total to £2741 which means you have to pay an extra £310 pounds to change your tickets.
Divided by 4 that's £77.50. Hope I've done the sums right but look at the figures before you decide to cancel, it would be such a shame.
Question Author
my quote has been for £853 for 4 to change which is approximately £200 + pp
