Listening to a programme on the radio the other day someone said that the apple skin was best for your health. I think I remember hearing some time ago that we should peel apples as there could be residue of pesticides on the skin.
Which is best, peeled or not?

Unquestionably, unpeeled. Just rinse the apple well under a stream of tap water and dry with a piece of kitchen towel before eating. The peel contains the majority of the fibre in the apple as well as polyphenols, vitamins and a whole host of other beneficial nutrients. I have a colleague who puts a spot of non-scented washing up liquid on a small piece of sponge...

Wash them before eating Sandy
Yes, I've heard that, too. Just give them a good wash. I also heard that Granny Smith's are best for reducing cholesterol.
i assumed everyone rubbed their daily apple on their top before eating??
Like cricketers and their balls ?

I have a colleague who puts a spot of non-scented washing up liquid on a small piece of sponge and washes the apple under the tap to remove any wax and other possible residues. It doesn't taste the fruit if the fruit is rinsed well. I think it's a great idea.
Aren’t a lot of fruit and veg more nutritious eaten with the skins on? I never peel potatoes or carrots, couldn’t eat a banana with the skin on though... ;)
