The only plug-ins for flies I'm aware of are the electric ones that zap them and then you have to brush out the dead bodies, no nicer than sticky fly papers (which really do work if you can bear it).
that sticky thing - I supposed I could hide it behind my curtains and then wouldn't have to look at it all the time and then eventually when many are dead - remove with rubber gloves.
I have just killed with the paper whacker right now in about one hour about 7 flies in this computer room whilst I've been on.
Need to clean windows too with the flies (***) as well. Blooody ***.
I keep a very clean house and I don't know where they come from. I do keep one bedroom window open so perhaps they come from there.
No JJ, you can lift the mesh, don't take it off, clean the window, and put it back again. Easy peasy. You could try it on one window and see how you get on.
You can have black or white, there might be others. Yes you can see them but they are so fine you hardly notice. You can certainly see when your windows need cleaning;-) Give one a try jj, much better than having filthy flies buzzing round your room.
had a load of flying ants in my kitchen, searched for where thye were coming in, i removed one of the kitchen cabinets and noticed where there was skirting board behind cabinet was missing mmm, alli could see was broken mortar, bad job mmm, anyway bought some ready mix cement and sealed the lot, no more bugs, as for house flys, i have what looks like a tennis racket that has electrified mesh, zap zap zap, like bug hunting...weird satisfaction.
I’ve got a mad method but it works!! Get a clear plastic bag, put a few coins in the bottom, or a few pieces of tin foil, then put about 2 inches of water in the bag. Tie a knot in the top, then hang it in the nearest open window or patio door. Apparently it creates some kind of optical illusion. I’ve done this and it absolutely works,
"On the famed show Mythbusters the experts tested this theory.
'This myth is based in the theory that refracted light in water confuses flies' compound eyes,' they said.
'The Build Team made a rig consisting of three chambers separated by trap doors. The first chamber would hold the flies, the second would hold some rotten meat, and the third would hold both rotten meat and a bag of water.
'They then released over 5,000 flies from the first chamber and waited to see how many flies would go into each of the other two.
'After the chambers were sealed off, they let all the flies die and collected the corpses to weigh for comparison. The chambers with and without the water contained 35 and 20 grams of flies, respectively, busting the myth.'"
Fly-papers aren't as bad as all that j-j. I just hold open a plastic bag underneath them and pulled-out the drawing-pin that holds them up. Behind the curtains isn't a good idea unless you have a deep window recess.
Asthma prohibits me from using the plug-in diffusers or aerosols. The diffusers really are awful for the chest. I have a fly-swatter or 2 around as well - more effective than the rolled-up newspaper.
