Its a crossword with one of the words in the clue wrongly spelt. For example 'student melting (7)' should be student meeting - seminar.
Another clue is Vegetable for ships (6) I have P?????

the clues have one word misspelt so it should read vegetable for Chips = potato etc

Thanks fiction-factory for putting me in touch with Deanys who tells me the answer is Tubby. Now I may be able to work out the rest of the answers. Also thanks to mallyh and Captain2 for their help.
