I think you need to understand that there are many social platforms available in this time and age. When I want a uk opinion or advice I come here, when I want I more worldly opinion about politics or other worldly affairs I use other platforms with a wider global audience.

I suppose others do the same.

Not sure you can really call them debates, when many people hold firmly entrenched opinions and simply trot out the propaganda from their favoured newspapers, and throw generic insults at people with whom they disagree ("EUSSR", "Vichy Britain", "Traitors").

Some people simply post a link to a newspaper article which is specifically designed to get people worked up (Success for the editors in triggering outrage). Never mind that it often turns out to be a lie.

References to certain individuals are frequently preceded by strongly negative, emotive adjectives.

References to those who disagree are frequently associated with other strongly negative adjectives.

It's not a debate when one side is simply casting insults at the other.

Why on earth would anyone want to get involved in such negative self-indulgence?
