Yes it is misleading but what else do you expect from the Daily Wail ? The Wail always has to slip in an anti Gay, anti immigrant, anti benefit claimant or what ever is on their current 'hate list' slant to every story. With this one they have managed to get an anti gay and anti benefit claim slant by mentioning 'tax payer funded' and ' gay' in one sentence.

How is the headline misleading?
The NHS should not be funding any kind of scheme that produces new people. There are plenty of people already. Not sure how the headline is misleading though.
I agree with them^
It's for heterosexual women and couples, too. Not exclusively for lesbians and single women.

Exactly hc4631.

Unbelievable that they can get away with this. Sure they go on to explain that their headline is cobblers within the story - but how many people will draw the same conclusions as scooping, ToraToraTora and Sjevk!
Absolutely disgusting, not the headline but the purpose for it all, this type of thing should be solely for the use of childless heterosexual couples who for some reason or other cannot Procreate.

its still a waste of money, no doubt dreamt up by a cabal of lefty's.

Incidentally, the headline in the paper version is worse.

http://www.thepaperboy.com/uk/front-pages.cfm

I follow a Twitter feed which reviews bad newspaper stories. It linked to the paper version of the paper, rather than the online version.
Usual intelligent and balanced DM report sp....its what we have come to expect.

AOG

Do you think the headline is misleading?

Svejk - same question to you.
sp1824: Perhaps you'd like Putin to regulate our Press. Only last week he increased censorship in Russia.
AOG, would you prefer that lesbian women falsely enter into marriage with a man solely for the purpose of getting pregnant before divorcing him?

There is a huge shortage of sperm donors at the moment and I think that is because of a change in law that removes the anonymity of the donor when the child reaches 18.
This is in the body of the report and totally contradicts the headline:

Heterosexual couples with fertility problems who need donations as part of IVF treatment will be among the customers of the new bank.

But a large percentage are predicted to be professional, single females who decide to have a baby without a man.

And based on current trends, more than a quarter of all the recipients are likely to be gay women.

scooping

I am not sure what you're talking about. Sorry - you've lost me.
"The [demand from] same-sex couples and single women has grown exponentially". You can't deny this appears in the article and 'hatred' is a bit strong. Can't you see why millions of people might prefer NHS money spent on something else?

sp....no not misleading............slightly provocative, shall we say?
/// Laura Witjens, NGDT chief executive, said:

‘The [demand from] same-sex couples and single women has grown exponentially. It’s become more socially acceptable to say, I haven’t found a guy yet, don’t want to wait for him, still want a child.’

She added: ‘The aim is that we will have enough surplus sperm so that we will be able to set up a service for people like single women and same-sex couples.’ ///

/// But a large percentage are predicted to be professional, single females who decide to have a baby without a man. ///

There appears to be some who won't be happy until men are made a redundant species.

/// And based on current trends, more than a quarter of all the recipients are likely to be gay women. ///

/// Latest available figures from the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority show that in 2011, 4,101 cycles of donor insemination were carried out in the UK. ///

/// Of these, 1,271 related to women registered with a female partner. That figure represents more than a quarter of the total and was a 23 per cent increase from the previous year. ///

I'm not sure either sp !

But moaning at the DM is like peeing into the wind. The DM prints what DM readers want to read...DM readers don't read anything that challenges their narrow right-wing view of life, otherwise they probably wouldn't read the DM in the first place. Just ignore the paper sp, even when its being misleading and offensive.
Question Author
scooping - what I mean is...I am criticising a newspaper for producing a story with a wildly misleading and inaccurate headline. I am in no way suggesting that Vladamir Putin, president of Russia, should take over the Press Complaints Commission.

...if that's what you meant.

And for clarity, I also don't endorse any of the following taking the job:

Alan Sugar
Barack Obama
Latoyah Jackson
Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah
The Queen
Freddie Flintoff
Johann Schneider-Ammann
Gabriel Byrne
Carol Vorderman
King Norodom Sihamoni

Not a completely comprehensive list, but I'm sure you get my drift.

Prudie

No...about 75% of those applying are heterosexuals. And this isn't funded by the NHS.
