I recently sold two vehicles for scrapping ( one vehicle had a SORN) to a
' metals and car breakers' company .

They issued me with a certificate of destruction for both .
I also need to apply for a refund of car tax on the second vehicle

Do i still need to send the part 9 portions of the V5C to the DVLA in order to notify them that i no longer have the vehicles - and also to get a refund of the car tax ?

To get the tax back, simply download, complete and return form V14:

As long as you've got the Certificate of Destruction for each vehicle you need to do nothing else. (See 'Scrapped the vehicle' on the back of form V14).
Yes, we've just scrapped a car last week. The V14 form told us to send the signed part 9 of the V5 back to them, with the request for a part refund of road tax.

Thanks Chris - please bear with me

The guy from the ' metals and car breakers' company , signed part 9 of the V5C

Just to clarify ( for my benefit - i know i'm thick ) - the fact that i've got a Certificate of Destruction means that the ' metals and car breakers company ' will notify DVLA that i'm no longer the Registered keeper / owner of the vehicles .
i.e . i do not have to also complete and sign part 9 of the V5C and send it off to the DVLA .

Is that correct ?
You're correct buy there's absolutely no reason (other than the cost of a stamp) as to why you can't use 'both belt & braces' and send DVLA Part 9 of the V5C. (DVLA have been known to lose information sometimes!)
