Thank you all for your best wishes. We had a roast beef platter in a pub with bread, pickle, salad, (could have had horseradish but don't like it).
Really nice meal.
Does anyone remember when pubs only dished up beer and crisps?

good evening parkdale.

i think i missed that thread.

may i offer my belated congratulations?
I also missed that thread - Best wishes to you both.
Glad you had a good meal.
Yes, I remember.
Well first off parkdale congrats on your anniversary...and yes I do remember pubs from I think about 1950 time when I first braved the landlady at the local pub...16 I was but looked at least 15 1/2 heh heh!

Beer was the attraction so crisps were just a luxury then...think then came the mussel man with his basket and vinegar bottle followed by the wonderful pork scratchings era...

The beginning of the end of those good old days was Scampi and chips in a basket....the height of sophistication as I was probably 18 or so by then and showing the girls a good time, washed down with Blue Nun German wine all consumed with relish through a thick fog of cig smoke....and the sound of the Juke Box.

Wonderful days...we were so cool :-)
Congratulations to you both, it sounds like a good celebration.
Is it today? Mine too, anniversary I mean. We've managed 11 years so far, how about you?
Congratulations to you both.

"Only dished up beer and crisps".
Do'nt forget the Arrowroot biscuits !
Hi Parkdale. Glad you've had a good time and a nice meal.
Sadly I do remember...but then pies arrived and....Chicken in a basket!! Wow!

Enjoy the rest of your anniversary. x
Hi parkdale belated congratulations to you and mrs p, I think we were frowned on when we went into pubs in those days

Congratulations on your 11 years Mr and Mrs BOO. Ours is 44 years so although we don't quite remember sawdust on the bar floor we still remember the days when pubs were the domain of adults only and the kids stayed outside with bottles of pop. No food. Licensing laws were very strict and certainly we could not have taken our 6 month old granddaughter into a pub as we did today.
Try here for next year, parkdale????

Bon anniversarie.

My mum was a publican on Merseyside in the 60's, and a special treat on a Sunday evening, put on pork pie and brown sauce to go with the beer and crisps!

Thanks Blue Toffee.
As far as that other place is concerned Nibble if I had that kind of money I'd like to have a trip round the world.
Trouble is my OH wants to go somewhere else.
Yes I remember the menu was beer crisps or peanuts. Pork scratchings didn't arrive until a few years later. Waiters used to serve you, carrying trayfuls of beer and remembering the drinks for the big rounds that used to be ordered then. It's all namby pamby now or arty farty as my old mam said.
Happy anniversary Parkdale I missed that thread. And Happy anniversary to B00 too. Hope you've enjoyed your day.
We'd all love to try it, but ......... OH would never go for it. Hope ou enjoyed your day :)
