No letters at all but will put in ploughman and then I can move on to the next quiz. Many thanks.
Could be a local variation of ploukie, a pimple or spot.
I've never seen it spelled like that, but a plooky is a spotty-faced person: http://dictionary.rev...ish-definition/plooky

Thanks to all, I am always amazed that you can find far more information on the websites than I can.
Hi,MarkRae, must visit the Pleuchie's Howff the next time I'm in Dumfries!! Just logged on. It is a ploughman but usually he's called a" plooman" or should I say they used to be called that.
I must admit I've never come across 'pleuchie', not that that means anything. I'll be in Dumfries at the beginning of August, so I'll check it out.
More usually PLOOKIE: an infected pimple. Possibly, in some localities, a derogatory term for a person who is a nuisance.
We've already established that 'pleuchie' and 'plook' are different words, bert...
