Finished it, but not sure about 4d Poet cut verse out of volume one (4) O?I?. I assume it is the poet OVID, but could be OMIT, because I don't understand the clue!

I think Ovid is correct and the cut refers to wordplay on void.

I think it's ode, cut = od out of (outside) V i
OD in the US usually means overdose, but can also mean right eye or Doctor of Optometry as well as olive drab.
I'm not familiar with the term od meaning cut. Please explain.

I have to say that I prefer my explanation as VI usually means six, not volume one, and void equates with cut.
However, we all seem to agreee on Ovid as the answer.
Verse = Ode. Cut = OD. Volume One = VI. You were correct to assume OVID
