I can't make much sense of your clue, and you've only given letters and blanks for (6,4)....but I just wonder if it might be Phineas Finn .
Phin + E(nglish) + as + Finn.
Phin & Finn are a couple, but sound the same ( ie like one speaking), & Phineas Finn was the main character in a novel by Trollope.
