Ok after posting on another thread. Who agrees that a child or baby should have their ears pierced. Has anyone got young children with piercings?

I don't think they should. Piercing of any part of the body is effectively mutilation - a socially accepted mutilation but a mutilation nonetheless. As such surely it is something that the individual themself should be able to decide whether to do, not something that should be done to them without their consent. Having consent means waiting until the child is old enough to understand and give that consent.

I wasn't allowed to have my ears pierced until I was 16 and if I ever had kids I will apply the same rule.
i have 8 kids and they are all pierced

How young were they rom and did they want it done?
no no no and NO!!!!!!!!

Why deliberately cause pain to your child, OK I know its only for a few seconds, but still..... and then they look like Chavs when it's done?

I don't see what's wrong in waiting till your child is old enough to have a say in whether they want holes in their lugs, especially when all it's doing is feeding YOUR vanity!!!

sorry for the teeny rant, it's a bit of a bug bear of mine is this one!

im old fashioned i dont like to see young children with theie ears pierced maybe when they start high school would be soon enough,
Totally agree with you Boo. You wouldn't give your tiny child a tatoo would you (at least I hope no one would) and I don't really see much difference.

I will take anybodies point of view. But for me to have pierced a babies ears is wrong. It should be there choice, I dont even agree with christening a child because it is putting a religion onto someone before they are old enough to know what they want. I feel any parent that pierces a babies ears is doing it for themselves because it cant be the babies choice when it cant even talk yet.
personally i wouldnt do it to a young child. I was 13 when i had mine done and i think i was at an age when i could keep them clean and free from infection and was responsible enough to take care so they didnt get caught on things.
a baby of 12 months or so is a handful and a wriggler id hate to catch an earing (those creole or hoop ones are easy to catch) id hate to have to live with the guilt of harming ripped an ear.
I also think it looks bad to be honest, like little girls with mini-skirts on. They are children and not to be made to look like adults.
I think it's vile! If a child isn't old enough to ask for it to be done and to understand the risks and involved, then it should be classed as abuse, even if it is done as part of someones "culture". (FGM is part of some people's culture too, and that is quite rightly banned in the UK)
I think it is wrong as they cant decide for themselves yet. I think parents should wait until the child is old enough to decide whether they want it done.

i think i got mine done at about 8 when i decided that i would like them done.
sorry 4getmenot, i was only joking, i am 27 and have no children cos the responsibility of myself scares me let alone a child!
if i did have a child there is no way in this world i would let it get its ears pierced till at least 16 when they can choose themselves
its vile
glad your answer was a joke rom.
lol, think I mut be really old fashioned then misjef, I think 8 isn't old enough for owt like that.

my eldest (now 18) was well into high school before I let her have them done.
i was allowed mine for my 13th bday, my sis had the kids done when they were about 2 i think, its just wrong, they're not old enough to decide for themselves and looks hideous
BOO i suppose it depends one peoples parents because my mums not too bothered about me having piercings - im 17 (18 on thursday!) and have 11 piercings, she doesnt like my lip or tongue piercing but i was over 16 when i got both of them done and i think she knew that she couldnt say anything to stop me getting them done because it was my responsibility to look after them and make sure i kept them clean. I have friends who werent allowed to get there ears done until they were 16/17 - let alone anywhere else!!
Oh don't get me wrong, I wasn't saying you or your parents were in the wrong misjef, hell nowt to do with me!

All i was doing was giving my personal opinion, that i'm probably a lot more old fashioned on things like this.
oh dont worry i didnt take it like that at all, sorry if it seemed that way!! :-) just giving my opinion back lol.
11 ? no
:-)
Ihad my ears pierced when I was four, my mum has had more children later on in life and wouldnt dream of letting her 7 yr old have it done.
I think ears are ok as long as the child is old enough to understand what is going to be done and that it is their choice. For babies it is just wrong.
We have an excellent piercer in our town, and I was surprised that he offered it but then he explained that he would rather know it was done well than turn them away to some 17 yr old saturday girl in a jewellry shop who does it one ear at a time.
