My daughter has just phoned to ask me for advice for what she believes could be an ear piercing infection. It must be some months now since she had her ears pierced but one ear has become red, swollen and painful so she was wondering if I knew of any home made cures.I said I didn't but I could ask here for advice. Thanks in advance.

Clean it with salt water 3 or 4 times a day. Antiseptic cream is fine. Don't let it crust over as it may trap bacteria. She should see doctor if it gets any more serious as she may need antibiotics.
Of the top of my head can only think of tea tree oil or coconut oil.
Over the years I've often had that, mainly caused by wearing cheap earrings for too long. I have always found that using an antiseptic cream such as savlon or germolene clear it up pretty quickly. If that doesn't clear it perhaps speak to a chemist who can advise if it needs a GP intervention or not.
We always used TCP.
If she can remove the earring, clean it in hydrogen peroxide to remove crusty material. Clean ear with warm salt water. Put antiseptic cream on earring and put back in. Might need to secure with bandaid if she cannot get back on. If she puts back on make sure it is not pressing into ear lobe. Just done this with granddaughter. Repeat every two days. Agree might need antibiotics if does not clear. How old is she?
Make sure earring is pure gold as she could be allergic to the cheaper ones
My partner did from cheap ones, now just pure gold or silver.
If she had her ears pierced months ago and hasn't had the infection till now, I don't think its likely to be a piercing infection. More likely a reaction to the metal of the earring or use of a dirty earring. I can only keep gold earrings in for any length of time and even though I am the only one who uses them, I clean my earrings frequently.

Thanks for all your answers, calmck my daughter is 36yrs old and 3 months pregnant with her 2nd child. She got in touch with the people who did the piercing and they asked her to come in so they could treat it but when she said she is pregnant they said they couldn't do the procedure and because she took the earring out, they have advised her not to bathe with salt water. I meant to ask her if these are the earrings that they put in after her piercing as I know you have to leave them in for a certain length of time, but I forgot.I have told her if it doesn't settle over the week-end that she might go to her local drop in clinic. Thanks for all your replies. x
As she's pregnant, I would advise her to get it looked at sooner rather than later.
Hope she gets it sorted soon. x
Agree with chelle! Might be a reaction to the earring though too xx
