Since face masks have been shown to be largely useless in preventing the spread of the Omicron variant (and probably scarcely any better with the earlier variants) can we be sure this ridiculous measure will not be considered again in the event of another flare-up?

Good news anyway. I noticed today at toddler group, that only one person was wearing a mask (they ask you to, unless exempt). Last week, almost everyone was.
Really no good for babies and toddlers to have half your face hidden while communicating with them.
Have they, I didn't know that.

Well NJ that is a revelation and taking your statement as gospel, then I hope that in future flare ups, they will not be considered.

But don't hold your breath.
No.
Even if they are of minimal use (which I dispute), they make the Government look as if they are trying to do something. And they also let the public signal that they are responsible citizens by obeying the rules (if only our leaders would do likewise).
I heard on the radio news earlier than despite dropping plan B shortly, masks are to be kept until 24 March, but I notice that less and less people are wearing them now anyway.
Fill your boots !
I will still wear mine in the supermarket etc for the next few months in light of the WHO latest though :

Cautious optimism is the way forward I reckon
The omicron new cases seems to be past its peak. 95K cases yesterday, is still higher than the below 40K in the autumn. But it id going down quickly.
Not sure Plan B made any difference at all. So scrapping the rules is welcome.
You must do whatever you feel is right for you Gromit
Boris couldn't give a fig how many of you get Covid.
.... as long as he can still be PM.
To tar all facemarks with the same brush may suit your hidden agenda, but the reason for the conclusion is because many facemasks are indeed ineffective, and many people don't wear them correctly.

Worn properly, good face masks are a viable preventative measure.

Perhaps if you should have the misfortune to undergo surgery, you would be quite happy for all Theatre Staff to go unmasked.
You can do what you like with them.
And, while you are at it, stop pontificating to the rest of us.
If you tar your face mask it will burn more easily …
There'll be a rush of videos soon on how to make use of masks you have left.
