How Old Is Old?

I can remember wanting to be sixteen so I could watch X films at the cinema - then throughout life certain ages meant you 'qualified' for certain things and now I am a pensioner the ages seem to have gone the other way - just seen an advert for homes only for 'over 45's'!

100 i guess, many are getting there too. quality of life may not be great but think what one has seen in all that time.

I would say old is when you start to draw old age pension.

i don't feel old, and im 66. having drawn my pension in December.

when I worked in the NHS, I was involved in designing a new national framework for services for older people....The definition of old they iused was anyone who has completed their work either in employment or childcare....so have your kid at 16, win the lottery age 32 and kick your kid out with a fistfull of moolah and hey presto you are an older person!....even if you wait till kiddo is an adult, you are still old at 34.

When I reached 40 I decided middle age started at 45. At 45 I put it off until 50.

Now I'm in my early sixties I want to campaign for the abolition of the phrase old age pension, and the description OAP.

It will be bad enough being called a pensioner.

Not at all, Im drawing mine and have been for a couple of years and don't feel at all old, Running/walking/climbing/ your as old as you feel,thats how id put it.

I read somewhere that a lot of people define 'old' as someone about 12 years older than themselves. Sounds about right to me.

Mr BM was most upset when at the age of 57 and following a stroke he was sent a letter from the "Elderly Patients Team".

Of course, I didn't laugh. Much.

Isnt the definition of old found when you fall over? If everyone laughs you are not old; if they run to pick you up with concern, you are old.
