This is what happens when you unleash socialism on a Nation. Venezuela is floating on oil they should have a solid prosperous economy and infrastructure. Yet socialism has reduced it to what we see today.

OG, Venezuela is often held up as a shining example by socialists. Just showing an example of the effects.

I cannot pretend Venezuela is a well run country, but it is oil rich.
The main problem is that is subject to stringent sanctions and an embargo by the United States. The main reason for that is its socialist Government. The US does not want a Socialist country to succeed in its backyard, so just like it did to Chile, the US undermines the Venezuelan economy. And the US sanctions are working, the country is in trouble.
The UN recently warned

Michelle Bachelet, a former president of Chile, said the sanctions were "extremely broad" and would hit the most vulnerable sections of society. //
Obviously the situation in Venezuela and a Labour Government in the UK are not at all comparable.
The US will not be applying crippling sanctions on Corbyn.
Dare I say it, it is a stupid comparison to make, and comes out of fear that the Conservative Government is so bad, even a terrible leader like Corbyn could get elected just because its time for a change.

It has been pointed out to maggiebee on numerous occasions that without England's largesse they can kiss goodbye to free prescriptions, free university education and free anything else our munificence allows the Scottish Government to provide the Scots with, and that such a tiny population is responsible for a completely disproportionate amount of the deficit.....but she never gives a response. She makes an unthinking statement and then scarpers - the Scots would be in penury without our generosity, but as you say Tora, open the vote to the whole of the UK, and I'm sure she'd get her wish.

Have a good read up. I think you will find there is a little more to the US:Cuba disagreement than the US not wanting "a socialist country to succeeed in its backyard."

The English don't hate the Scots, maggie (well at least I don't). What they dislike is having to provide huge sums of cash so as to enable Scottish people to enjoy "free" services that those south of the border have to pay for. By the way, did you have any success investigating the Scottish financial situation, as we discussed a couple of weeks back?

Major had a tiny majority and was at mercy of the ***** in his own party. Then, like now, it was all pretty shambolic, and the odious Blair swept in with a landslide. The public just gets fed up of the same Party in power for a long time and they vote for a change.
(Not saying Corbyn will get a landslide, I think a hung parliament).
