Please join in with any bargains or 'unusual' purchases you've made recently ...
1. Co-op - currently doing some *very* tasty Malt Whisky offers - I got a bottle of Chivas Regal 12yo for only £20 from my local store - a cracking dram and the best price I've seen for it for ages.
2. M&S - they've refreshed their "Meal Deal for 2" offers - lots of choice (including vegetarian options) - main +2 sides + pudding + bottle of wine = £12 - I am having one tonight.
3. Iceland - they now have a new store near me, which sells a lot of fresh/chilled stuff as well as the usual frozen suspects - I was very impressed - have a look if there is one near you. Lots of very interesting meal ideas and some basic staples at excellent prices

4. Aldi - chainsaw on a stick tomorrow - if anyone tells gness I'll be cross (and probably 'stumpy dave' rather than 'sunny dave')

Even though it's only me, I sometimes do the meal deal...it's often worth it just for the wine. But my fav now is the 3 for 10. But a few "meals" are just enough for one person...ie, anything with prawns/salmon.
Iceland have really upped their game in the past year or two. I mean, packs of olives with feta in ICELAND? Who'd of thought?

I agree about the Iceland range, Pasta - I was really pleasantly surprised by some of the Deli goods on offer.
I was in an M&S 'Simply Food' store - very attractive but (with the exception of the 'deal offers') not exactly feasible for a 'big shop' unless you have won the lottery.
I've just eaten a Rye Sourdough Mini Baguette from there - absolutely excellent just with some good butter.

Since Dave has mentioned Co-op booze bargains, I'll mention that (around here at least) there are currently some decent deals on their bottled beers. Any two of the 'large' bottles (typically 660ml but occasionally 750ml) of beers like Staropramen will cost you just £4. Any 3 of the 'small' or 'medium' bottled beers (500ml in most cases or 330ml in a few) will cost you a fiver.
Those prices aren't any lower than the offer prices that Asda (et al) often have but they're worth knowing about if you happen to fancy a few beers and the choice is between nipping down to the local Co-op or driving several miles to Asda.
I'll add a couple of caveats though. (The first one might also apply to Dave's post):
(i) because 'the Co-op' is actually made up of lots of different regional co-operative societies, some offers are national ones whereas others are only available in one particular area. (It's the East of England Co-op around here) ;
(ii) always, always, always check your receipts when buying stuff at the Co-op. I reckon that around 30% of the offer prices shown on the shelves of our local Co-op stores aren't the ones charged at the tills. (i.e. it's easy to get charged the full price of items 'on offer' if you're not careful)
