Seriously I don't really think there's a lot to worry about.
Someone's got to counter the commercial media's continuing rush to the right.
Welcome as it is, such an appointment can only go a little way to redress the right-wing bias that's all too obvious in BBC current affairs programmes.
the Guardian backed the Lib Dems at the last election, so the coalition should be safe in Newsnight's hands. And that's what the nation wants, isn't it?

What programmes could they possibly be Sandy, please enlighten us?
Even further to the left ? Why is the BBC being accused of being on the left ? Is it because they deem to take this Government to task when its needed, just as they did to previous Labour administrations ?

Perhaps people would be happy if the Daily Mail took over the Beeb instead !
It will go some way toward correcting the BBCs outrageously right wing favouritism, IMO - shall be looking forward to hours and hours of balanced dispassionate reporting now.

Well done the BBC!
