Have completed puzzle wit two answers I don't understand.

24 a Minion not sweet- the last for acerbic leader. u?d?r?i?g M (9)
I presume UNDERLING as Minion but dont understand rest of clue.

23d "Ironclad back at sea? Rubbish!" (5) d?o?s DROSS as rubbish but again I dont get it.

Explanation would be appreciated.

24a Pre sume not sweet maybe undarling. \Substituting last letter of the by first of acerbic gives underling.
23d is easier back of ironclad is d followed by ross sea
