you'd been given a different name as a child? Or did you register your own child and then wish you'd chosen something else?

Lol wildchild! Close call indeed!!!
Certainly not me, cossie. I'd never been on any chat site before AB, and that was only because I stumbled on it by accident. NOW look!!! Smile.
Anyway, not so long ago, a second IM showed up on here, but typed in a slightly different way. I thought it was someone trying to copy me, but the person said they'd had the name since 2005 or something (long before I registered). I found that odd, since the way they spelt the user name was exactly like I'd first done on registering, so couldn't understand how I'd been allowed to use it as well. I only changed to this one, after having a spell in the dungeon, but decided to keep it & let the other user carry on with theirs if they wanted to.

Yes i most definitely do wish I'd been given a different name when I was born- so much so that I changed my name by deed poll last year.
Choosing names for your children is really difficult, I've two daughters and each time I chose their names I (as I'm sure everyone does) took real pains to give them names that aren't too stupid, trendy or plain weird.

I like my name -I like my middle name better -im old fashioned with names -both my 2 have traditional but not commonly used names apart from J -but 19yrs ago it wasnt popular.I love the names I gave to my children and so do they -R's suits him.He was gonna be Niall or Lyall but in my post birth stupor -I said he looked like R (on the list).
Rosalind if he had been a girl.
J was gonna be Felicity but she is so a J.
If she had been a boy -then she was Oliver.
I remember once a guy was being interviewed on GMTV -his name was Elvis he lived in London but discovered he was now the Chieftain of some far flung tribe -that was the crux of the story.
Then killer Q -were you named after Elvis -erm well considering we were born in the same year I can safely say no.
I creased myself -red faces all round and he just guffawed -classic.

Names are pretty traditional within our household, but it's nice to break out of the pattern now and again.
Yes Boo, I also know a person who was brave enough to do the deed poll thing. Did you find it difficult to get used to being called by your new name? Sorry - just interested about that.
I quite like the name of Aaron, but prefer it to be pronounced as "Air-un" instead of "Arrun" - if you see what I mean - x

My husband is not known as his given name -which is alovely name.
Him and his pals when they were about 12- decided for a laugh to call each other by their dads names -it only lasted a few weeks but his stuck.
Its a nightmare -he calls himself H -but his family call him A -he signs all legal things by A but his payslips / tax returns are in H.
I could boot his ass at times as he is so nonchalant about it but it has caused so many problems.
We ,,et people and some say o how ya doing A?
His mum calls him A -and I have to try to call him A -but if I call him H -then she thinks im talking about his dad.
He is one awkward B -lol

Hello again Icey :-)
It's not me really that finds it difficult to use my new name, but every one else does- lol. Mr Boo has to consciously stop himself calling me by the old one and as for mates- forget it, they still haven't wrapped their heads round it. Work is ok, they've adapted really well! LOL, it helps I suppose that we've to wear badges with ou names on.

LOL @ Quoi.
Boo -takes a lot of guts to change your name in 'adult' like but good on ya -you will always have people calling you by your 'previous' name -but het small price to pay.
I am known as Dris on and off line now.
Its like trying to say to some of my mates call me 'Agnes' -its alien to them and its alien to me to call them by their 'real' names.
We have on occasion been out and its like ffs -wheres the carer -as some call the other by old names and some with real names and some with current on line names -and then we all just start pishing ourselves laughing as its so bizarre.
