Will the schools be closed?
The reason I'm asking is because, if it's held on Sept 19th, I think that's the day that exams are being taken in some parts of the country.
I'm pretty sure that's the day my granddaughter is due to take her 11plus.

11-plus in September? I took mine in about January/February, IIRC.

I could be wrong here but didn't they hold the 11 plus twice a year depending on how old you were?
Although my Granddaughter is taking it this month, she isn't 11 yrs old until next July which I think puts her at a bit of a disadvantage.

Some memory there, NJ. Passed my 11-plus in '66 but, for the life in me, i couldn't put a month on when i sat the exam. I do recall those who had passed (just 3 of us, 2 boys and a girl) and a few who had just failed but qualified for the 'Technical' school, were given an hour off lessons to go and inform our parents. Not that the news went own well in my house.
We haven't had an 11+ exam in Scotland for many, many years. Can you tell me the purpose of it?
Queen's cortege passing through my home town either today or tomorrow on its way to Edinburgh for her lying in state at St Giles Cathedral.

maggie, we still have grammar schools here in Manchester and that's why we still have the 11 plus.
Thanks Barsel, never been sure of the English education system.
Question Author
I only know about the system in the area of Greater Manchester where we live, I don't know if it applies to all of England.
It's probably a political thing. :-)
All my nephews and my niece living in the Kent area, went to grammar school and so have their children
Barsel, I wouldn't worry if they dates do clash arrangements will be made to change the date of the exam.
What's more important is that the wife's car has an MOT test booked that day.
Question Author
Margo, yes I was wondering if they may do that. They would obviously have to close all the schools so that some are not taking it before others.
Is it to be a public holiday? I hadn't heard that.

Barsel, there are grammar schools in other areas too.
Naomi , it will be a bank holiday as will the day of King Charles Coronation apparently
Oh, ok. Thanks Margo.
Just been confirmed as 19th September
We have a funeral of our own booked for that day. What happens now?
I imagine that will go ahead, Tissy. Shops and services won't be closed.
Question Author
Naomi, not sure about that. Tesco have no available slots for Sept 19th for delivery, so there will be some services not available.
Really, Barsel? You think all the shops will close? I didn't think they would but you may well be right.

Although that said, cancelling a funeral would seem rather disrespectful to the deceased .... don't you think? It will be interesting to find out.
