on sunday my commuter was got at by a crypto virus, nothing worked and it said if i wanted my files back i had to pay £500 odd ,luckily after many hours hubby managed to get things straight again ,has anyone else had this ?

mallyh...I have heard of this sort of thing but haven't come across it myself.

What anti-virus software are you using ? I use Norton. I rather thought a good, up to date, one would have stopped this dead in its tracks, but I may be wrong.

hubby deals with all that as im a computer thickie but it took him all sunday afternoon and until midnight yesterday to clear it .
I suggest hubby invests in a good anti-virus package then mallyh...if you
have fallen victim once. it will happen again. Norton checks every day for new viruses.

i know he uses one that does that but it didn't stop this virus .
Then we would seem to have a problem Houston !
glad its all okay now mallyh, bit it would have been cheaper to buy a new laptop than pay £500 would it not ?
