When you have a heavy cold, eg eyes running, nose constantly needing blowing. sneezing and aches everywhere. Why is it worse first thing on a morning and last thing at night?

I'm not Sqad but here's my halfpenny's worth.
You spend the night lying down breathing shallowly for the most part, allowing mucous to build up so as soon as you sit up everything starts. You are sweating under the bedclothes and not moving much so you stiffen up.

During the day you are walking about, bending, stretching going about your usual daily business and frequently blowing your nose, coughing up mucous, getting fresh air. No chance of a mucous build up or stiffening up, even if you are taking things easy.

Evening comes, you settle down in front of the tv, not moving much, shallow breathing, sweating under that throw......
No advice sorry, just warm drinks paracetamol and hot water bottle in bed. Hope you feel better soon Jeza.
The best advice I ever got for heavy colds etc,was to sprinkle Olbas Oil drops on the pillow. You can breathe properly and the mucus doesnt seem to build up as much.
Jeza - nip to the chemist, get some Beechams All in One (we find the liquid better than the tablets) and take a dose. We swear by it for heavy colds, excellent stuff. (Not sure if you can have the B&C at the same time, but it's good medicine!)
Hi! Jeza.......rough time at the moment eh?

hc4361 has said it all and the only thing that I can add to that post is that the drainage of the sinuses is an outlet half way up the sinus, so it can be half full before it starts to drain. not very bright of our maker putting it there eh?
However it was designed when we were walking on all fours, which was fine, but when we adopted the erect position it became not so useful.
