Hey, chucky

So, on the way to Gatwick today, I checked the price of petrol at the Rabbit Roundabout.

The BP station on the roundabout is 140.9 (for unleaded).

Curiously, the Esso station just down the road (into town) is only 137.9.

The next BP station out along the A23 is 139.9.

And the Shell station near the park is 134.9 !

So the Shell station about half a mile closer into town is 6p cheaper. I'd never noticed.

Having said which, the Shell station is really pikey.

I'm not stopping at a pikey petrol station just for the sake of 6p.

Okay, okay ... whatever multiple.

But hey ... you must know the Shell station on the left, on the way out of town, ladybirder (assuming you leave the centre of Brighton, obviously).

It's really horrid, isn't it. It's always dirty, and ... pikey !
I'm not Chuck, but...that's 6 pence a litre. I put an average of about 35 litres each visit...so, more than £2 each time.....pikey, or not.

gingejbee ... we're talking really grotty here.

It's a Shell station, so I don't know why it's so crap, but ...

... well, I wouldn't stop there.
pray, define pikey, jayne. I used to work for one of them. I also know the folk in Shell and can forward your comments on customer feedback.

I only put Shell and one other, Chevron in my car as I am more than aware of additive technology and whose engines are the cleanest. There is one particular major brand I will avoid as i have seen at first hand the soot build up in their points and valves, and that translates to a mileage penalty. Shell in the States is now advertising a very "conservative" fuel economy gain on their Super....not over here yet for fear of the rival lawyers no doubt.
Never use it JJ. Hove Station is my choice as I get the car washed, polished and hoovered for me while I'm round there. No pikeys - this is Hove after all:-)

ladybirder ...

I have to admit, Brighton was pretty horrid this weekend. It was full of day trippers ... Friday was the worst day, for some reason. It was full of fat, white blokes, wandering around with no shirts on. Everyone was tattooed. The tarty women were down from London, with their "Gor blimey" voices. It was ghastly. I was tempted to move to Hove, Actually !!

DTC ... you just drive past this place, and it looks dirty, that's the thing. And the BP station up the road is all clean, and the signs are bright, and everything.
JJ same in Hove - absolutely heaving. We all ended up on our roof terrace with a few bottles of wine and it was lovely.
Joggerjayne, you can't have it both ways, Brighton wouldn't have become the town you love if it wasn't for the day trippers. Anyway you should live in Eastbourne, you get a much better class of visitor. :-)
Is the Brighton and Hove Gay Mens choir still around?

I saw a clip of them on youtube - singing "I am what I am" and it was a nice feel-good song.

I don't know what % of the population is gay - but to find so many gay males in one town who can sing couldn't have been easy.
sounds like it is Dealer owned and not subject to Shell's usual high standards....I was already suspicious but will pass on some come comments to the head of their dealer 'union' who operates out of Didcot, Oxon, and various other locations in that area,.....

Bit like down here when it comes to the influx of tourists.....mayhem and a good excuse to stay in. Am heading up to Surrey and Kent myself this coming weekend, not, per se, to play tourist!
Wolf yes they are still around. A large proportion of the population is gay here and in my small block of 16 flats, seven are occupied by gay people and of those one chap sings for Glyndebourne and another is a concert singer.
When I win the lottery I will move to the seaside - Brighton and Hove or Bournemouth.

It might be a while yet. And I can't drive which is always a problem.
JJ- where is the shell garage near the park? Do you mean in Brighton or Crawley?
Wolf Brighton has a fantastic bus service, must be one of the best in the country, certainly the best I've ever come across. I do use my car for going out of town but it's so expensive to park and so hard to find an empty spot in Brighton that it's better to use the bus.
I want a flat at the beach or marina. The house prices up here (over the border) are not too bad - the prices in your part of the world are scary. I saw some piece of land which was for sale for £11,000,000 a year or so back.
I used to live in Brighton and I would love to go back, but having come over here to Kent, I couldn't possibly afford to go back now!
Too noisy for me along the seafront Wolf with people coming from the clubs till dawn keeping folk awake. And the sirens wailing. JJ might feel differently. But if you're OK with that then go for it.

Sorry, guys ... got distracted.

DTC ... I don't want to get anyone into trouble !

Icey ... It's Broghton, not Crawley. If you're driving out of Brighton, following the London and Gatwick directions, the main bit of Preston Park is on your right ... where they have the bowlong green (It should be called a Bowling "Brown" at the mo ... I think it needs a bit of water, LOL). So, anyway, you go past Preston Park, and just as you get to the end of the park, there's a Shell station on your left.

Don't stop there. It looks really pikey.

ladybirder ... you didn't mention that all our buses are named after prominent locals. I think they should name them after local celebs like Zoe Ball, Norman, or Phil Mogg.

wolfy ... prices are not that bad. You can get a sea front apartment for £600,000. Actually, there are a couple of 2 bed flats for sale in the Van Alen Building for £475,000 (although one of them is on the ground floor).
